  • Woah, that was unexpected.

    Rep.

  • Would rep if rep was a thing any more.

  • I at least expected a better forum name like Met-Rick, Met-a-physical or Bapho-Met, , at least show some enthusiasm, if you're after free research...

  • @ User 58552,

well that sounds so formal, ok if I call you User ? I'm doing a bit of research on commercial organisations using this site for free research, so you won't mind taking time out of your busy day to answer many questions and perform follow up interviews.

Don't worry you won't be getting any thing in return, this is your time for my benefit. So on the the survey

Do you think MEAT helmets have become more prominent ?

Dose this help, re branding ?

What has been your experience of the friend-est site on the internet ?

Do you wish you'd never asked ?

  • Well the response has been interesting haha. I have been on a few lfgss rides in the past and have another username to which I can't remember the password so did the whole log-in with google thing. I just thought I would ask and see what people say, I was expecting this kind of response ha. Work have not asked me to do this, I was just doing a little research for myself, my boss is away at the moment but I will discuss an incentive for genuine honest answers even though I have enjoyed the answers so far.

  • do you think the kids are less safe because they feel emboldened by their helmet use?

There is evidence that kids exhibit risk compensation behaviour like everyone else. Give them swimming aids and watch what they do.
Kids like wearing funny hats and may not be aware of alleged safety benefit of helmets. The high risk comes from stupid parents who insist on kids wearing helmets and do nothing else to help them learn about bike riding.

  • I will discuss an incentive for genuine honest answers even though I have enjoyed the answers so far.

All my answers so far have been honest despite not being paid a bean.

  • Also my bad for asking for feedback for nothing. Sorry!

@Charlie_L I like the crazy helmet video.

  • Some honest answers here as I know how horrific doing these kind of market research questions can be:
What do you know about MET Helmets?
Cav wears one, the Manta is pretty good looking
Do you like the brand? I have no strong feelings one way or the other, they don't have the same presence as other brands but I've had a couple of Met helmets that have worked well. One thing that is important is that the design of the most high-end helmets Met have doesn't signal 'this is high quality' to anybody else apart from the wearer - if you are spending £150+ on a helmet, you want it to look the part.
If so why? Or why not? I don't think the brand really has much of an identity beyond 'we make helmets' when you look at Rapha, Giro, or Assos, even if they are over-priced they still have a certain prestige from wearing them, even if that's just an "I'm so into riding I'm willing to pay silly money for kit" prestige.
What makes you choose one helmet over another? Traditionally - aesthetics, weight, ventilation. But recently if I am given the choice between a MIPS vs non-MIPS helmet I will choose MIPS every time.
Which is your favourite helmet brand if you have one? And why? Lazer or Giro - both make good looking helmets that offer all of the above - I don't need to buy helmets often for a couple of reasons, so when I do I'm happy to spend bigger on something that's safe, light, good-looking, and well ventilated. I am aware that not everybody can do the same and I'm very lucky to be able to.

  • Copy Catlike or POC, job done... To my mind they have design, quality and branding. Louis Garneau has some interesting designs at lower price points, that don't look deliberately knobbled style wise like some manufacturers do. There. Can I have a box of energy bars? Lol.

  • Also my bad for asking for feedback for nothing. Sorry!

I don't think that's the problem - I do a lot of market research and sometimes I get research in person, telephone and in-situ sessions without an incentive. But when I do ask for this kind of thing I'm very careful to explain who I am, why the person should care, where the results of the research will go, and to what end. If you had said

"Hi I'm SoandSo and I've been a few LFGSS rides you might have met me! Cheeky request - maybe you help me out? I'm doing some research in to Met helmets - it's for a pitch/ inform detailed research planning / personal reason and I'm really interested in what you have to say about Met and why you may or may not have used a Met helmet, and what you find important when choosing a helmet. I provide advice to Helmet manufacturers and this helps them develop their products and Met have asked me to work with them and I'm trying to work out if I can help them. It will take five minutes, I don't work for Met and they won't see what you say so don't worry and your comments won't be shared or be identifiable beyond the forum.

If you've got a moment, can you tell me...

    What you know about MET

Whether you have any opinion of Met, their brand, their designs etc

How you decide on a new helmet purchase

Your favourite or go-to make of helmet

And I'll be forever grateful (and maybe buy you a beer at Norths/Easts/Souths/Wests"

You'll probably get a very different response. Well, maybe!

  • What do you know about MET Helmets?

Not a lot. I had one once, about 2001 - I new nothing about bikes or helmets at the time but had just bought a shiny new MTB and I thought I needed a lid.

    Do you like the brand?

I'm ambivalent. I know nothing of them. They have zero visibility.

If so why? Or why not?

    Above.

What makes you choose one helmet over another?

Fit, look, colour, price. In that order.

Which is your favourite helmet brand if you have one? And why?

I've got a few Bell helmets in the house - both road and the Super2R modular MTB helmet which has been amazing. MTB helmet tech is actually pretty interesting - much more interesting than road helmets as you can imagine, where it's harder to differentiate on anything other than design and colour. That said, I'll always start a helmet search from scratch because they are an infrequent purchase.

  • I (accidentally) ordered and ate that. First thing I did was PM @fussballclub just to be safe.

  • Is Luda your next of kin?

  • it flies in the face of everything I have ever known about pork and its safe consumption.
