Me and you both, especially as I'm down for twice as many laps. I staggered round a Vets' 5 mile race in Battersea Park last night at exactly target marathon pace. Not helped by the pollen count, but my fitness has gone to pot since the marathon. Eek!

I haven't really run properly since the last assembly league.
Rest is training too, yeah?

4 weird spikes on my hr today, ran v.steady throughout. Strap battery most likely?
Edit: log reckons nearly every mile had spikes of 160plus despite v.steady ave, was never working that hard... weird.

Looking at AHR for each mile, I reckon you'd be hard pushed to reach the supposed MHR each mile even if you threw in some quick strides. When I was still using HR, 140 would be about my easy run HR. 170 would be mara/HM rate but would take a couple of miles to get up there after hitting the pace.
I've managed to get myself demoted to the B race for the Fast Friday 10,000m. So hopefully I can endure 25 laps of agony surrounded by runners of roughly similar pace, rather than suffering the same pain whilst being lapped three times by Paul Martelletti.
North Downs Run (30k) this Sunday. (Incorporating British Masters' trail championships.) Hope it's worth missing the first half of the footie!

Finally got around to watching this. Even though I knew the outcome.....the last 5 mins were hard to watch :(

Yeah 140 is my easy run effort, aspirational max hr in ultra (i always go over).
Maybe fatigue & heat were influencing things but i'd expect sustained raised hr if so.
The thought alone of running at 170bpm for longer than 10km race duration hurts. Maybe a hm is something I should try to race again, a focus for next year perhaps.

P.s. Enjoy the B race, sounds a good option.

Steeplechase sounds fun, 400m less so!
Would be lovely to be out in any hills this weekend.

Done! Ran the The Hague Urban Trail this morning. A 10k run through the city centre of my home town. The course went through some landmark buildings as well, wich created a lot of bottlenecks along the course. Strava says my net time is 52 minutes but with al the waiting the actual time was closer to 1 hour 10 minutes. Was a fun run to do, shame my running partner couldn't make it in the end, this kind of run is more of a social thing than a serious run. 4/5, would do a different one again with someone.

Didn't follow WS100 closely, Jim Walmsley did well though, course record time including a bear & cubs encounter!

I was following it all day, Jim crushed it. My pre-race prediction was Walmsley and Lucy Bartholomew, so I nearly got there.
Lesser talked about story is that Ian Sharman is one WS away from 10 finishes in less than a weeks worth of time which is astonishing consistency for such an unpredictable race.

...Until it all goes horribly wrong! I actually hit the wall for the first time in a race yesterday, about 23k into the North Downs Run 30k. Combination of severe lack of mileage (longest run 12 miles since the marathon) and the heat, as I'm sure dehydration played its part. Felt very dizzy and immediately slowed down, hobbled to the next water station, stopped and downed 4 cups of squash, sort of got going again but ran/walked all the way to the end. Heard a cheery "All right?" with 5k to go, MsPub merrily overtaking me on her way to winning the women's race for the 4th year in a row, in a course pb time, taking 4 minutes out of me!
Ugh! Thankfully this race is well known for its plentiful supply of free cake and tea at the end, which I devoured in huge quantity before repairing to the nearest bar to see England score the odd goal. Oh somehow I was going well enough before I blew up to hold on to 3rd V45 in the British Masters' champs, and with two speedier club mates in front of me we won the team competition. Ho hum!

^Kudos, sounds a tough run.
I went out Saturday morning with a vauge route in mind. Run to parkrun (at top of hill), run park run, drop down other side of hill to canal, follow canal, drink from tap I was hoping would be unlocked (it was), drop onto river path and follow back towards town a bit before turning to loop over a hill and return home, possibly via another hill if time permitted.
Didn't plan on getting lost at the top of hill 2, at the farthest point from home on the route, without a phone, money, or anything to drink. Dried out like a crisp. Finally got back on track, but was really suffering by that point, found a spring that I'd heard might be ok to drink from, took the chance but it was way too late. Spent most of the day with a headache. Didn't have time for the potential 3rd hill :(
Still, got through over 18 miles and about 2000' of up and down so a decent training run :)

I saw something about this too, he had to run appx 17.30 each one or similar? Pressure on for next year!

Fast Friday this evening and conditions look excellent. The positive spin is that I'm well rested. The alternative is that I haven't done enough speedwork in the last couple of weeks. Just have to see what happens. See a few of you there later.

For the uninitiated- what’s fast Friday?

Ah yeah, good luck! I might be able to cheer you on around some of my warm-up. I'm trying to tell myself it's a very low-key race and to take it easy, since a PB's way out of the question. So I'll probably get sucked into trying to keep up with someone quicker than me and having a nightmare anyway. Can't wait!
The skin has gone a bit dry and cracked which is weirdish too
