  • Would recommend Bearbones too.

  • Much appreciated @rhb @hiraethus, their supalite carbon looks like it will do the job, cheaper than other ones i’ve come across too.

@platypus Thanks for the recommendation, they look spot on. I’m in the UK however and postage & import tax would make them too expensive unfortunately.

  • No worries, enjoy!

  • Probably answered before...any suggestions on best place for replacement pegs and what are the best ones without spending a small fortune?

  • Check out Alpkit options &, erm, again Bearbones

  • Thanks @rhb

  • Late to the party but I have the 6 moons ones

Which is good. Whatever you get though I'd recommend trying to get a rebar mushroom cap.

I use it to spread the load on the fabric to stop the pole ripping through. I know most people use an eyelet or have the pole attached to a line, but doing this gives gives you a nice overhang to keep the bad weather out. I'll make a diagram if what I'm saying isn't clear.

  • The pole came. It looks great and weighs even less than described. It’s exactly what i was after and will hopefully do a sterling job.

Thanks for the suggestion @spotter. I’ve fitted a washer to stop it trying to get through the hole, seems like it will do the job.

This is a photo of my first thoughts for a rainy setup. Enough room for me (feet out) and my bags.

  • Think I might need to re-tarp myself. The basha I gave to a homeless friend (later destroyed by council workers, or security guards, or some such a-hole) was great, huge, but heavy. The Jack Wolfskin Gossamer just didn't feel right but was built pretty well.

Finally pitched in the garden this budget thing from a charity shop, and it seemed like luxury having space for two on the width, but the sit-up height wasn't worth the shape, especially since it was still a couple inches shorter in length to what might have been comfortable...

Really would prefer a tent like this over a tarp setup, cos of the insects and my babysoft man-skin, but then the tarp/bivvy thing was never that bad in the past.

    Excuse the dog-dug holes.

  • Not a recommendation, but don't get the Coleman Cobra 2, you'll have the same problem!
Saying that tho, my friend has a Vango Banshee 200 and you can sit up in it (I'm 5'11") so that may be worth a look if on a budget, otherwise something like a MSR Elixir 2.

  • I think someone has a berghaus 1-man for sale in classifieds. It’s the better version of the one I’ve got and while it’s jot got a huge amount of footprint space, I can sit up comfortably in it. Super quick to put up, too

  • First outing with the lightweight aliexpress tent this weekend. Not sure if i'd use it in other weather than on dry summer days. But it weighs nothing and took up little space in the backpack.
The centre pole was a little short though so it looks a bit wonky.

  • this picture on their website is terrifying!

  • That’s a pile of tent.

  • Yeah, doesnt look very weather proof. Also, it does annoy me how many of the ali-express tents are such bright colors. Doesn't make for inconspicuous camping - "hello, look at me, i'm hiding in your field!"

That does look like a lovely spot though. Where were you exploring?

  • I quite like the look of this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ultralight-Tent-1-Person-Double-Layers-Tent-UV-Protection-Waterproof-Tents-4-Seasons-Camping-Outdoor-Tent/32788634844.html?

Single skin, but would keep the beasties out. Green one is the lightest version at under a kilo. Enough room for you and some stuff inside. Still be concerned about how it stands up to mega wind due to the lack of guy lines. Twin guys upfront pulling out in V formation could help. Tempting.

  • lol yeah my pitch was pretty shit. It does feel well made overall though. Good for short trips. I'll take some better pics next time.

Scrabble, just outside my hometown here in central Sweden. Woke up at 5am to smell of smoke and seeing it all over the lake. Slightly worrying since we've had wildfires in the area the last couple of weeks. But it turned out it had travelled with the wind from another fire like 150km away. But i was ready to jump into the lake for a moment.

  • I’ve never had good luck with single skin tents, always creating micro climates that tend towards the saturated side, even with the Tarptent. Have to say though, some of the best service and interactions I’ve had with any company was with the owner, Henry Shires.

  • Looking at picking up a Vango Zenith Pro 200 for general camping and eventually some bikepacking/touring duties. Anyone had experience of these? Can get one for about £120 ash

  • Have you got a photo of it packed up?

  • Can snap one later today. Here's a vid (not mine) of it.

Appears i've actually been pitching it wrong. Hence the sag in the tent in my photo above^

  • These £40 tarps look ok.

Any thoughts? I may give it a go.

I camped last weekend (with a tent) and really wished I had a smaller packing, more minimal setup for summer nights.

  • can't go wrong with decathlon! buy it!

  • Looks interesting
