  • I guess it's context dependant too. Someone like Chooyhudson is making a business out of it, and deliberately trying to bully prices down-his messages are blunt as fuck.

I've bought stuff and when my eyes were bigger than my wallet and ended up selling more or less immediately for as much as I can to plug a gap. To an outside observer it might look planned but really it's just me being shit with money and wanting all the bikes.

I never try and sell for more on the forum if that's where I bought something or bully people on prices when I buy stuff as it's pretty bad karma.

  • Both very fair points that I can’t argue with, as I find myself having my moral finger compasses in most of those point-made pies....

    Particularly eyes-bigger-than-belly purchase pies...

  • Speaking of eyes bigger than belly thanks for shipping the wheels so quick. (Paid very fair asking price I hasten to add and they're cheap replacements for my Chris kings which are getting sold to raise funds💩💩💩💩💩💩)

  • Remember ameys first forum sale thread? Hahahaha hahaha... Now legendary cuntseller moves that are now a totem to how not to sell stuff on here

  • Remember ameys first forum sale thread?

    ??

  • Knew what I was getting into. Wife blew a rim three weeks out from setting off on a ride across the continent, so needed a stand in. Also, had to learn the tubeless, don’t particularly want to hit the learning curve somewhere in the middle of France. Worked out better than buying a cheap rim for three weeks.

That being said, very impressed with the Hunts. Super high spec for the price point. Will be getting more.

    All post-rationalisations, I’m sure.

  • Culminated in a lesson in post imperialism://www.lfgss.com/comments/7445185/

Was followed by the infamous Rabobank colnago flipping incident which saw a brief flounce.

    Such memories

  • Well I'm happy I got them so thanks. The noise from King freehubs is fucking annoying anyway I guess...

  • I’m glad. I won’t mention the noise on the Hunts tho...

  • I hear you on the eyes bigger than wallet front, I've had to sell a frame recently that I'd bought with the intention of riding but soon realised i needed money for elsewhere.

  • Interested in getting people's $0.02:

I PM seller re bike for sale thread which states shipping via courier (and that the bike is being sold for a friend and non member). Offer to pay asking price and any additional shipping cost for postage to Ireland. Ad states that payment is to be made via bank transfer only. I note this and say I'm willing to proceed as the bike was a great opportunity to size down in track bike which I badly needed at a competitive price I could afford, that and I'd never been burnt here before when purchasing so I decided it was worth the punt.

Seller comes back and says that's fine but it'll be an extra £54 to have it delivered via courier, I reply saying I'd get back the next day as I was in work til late and wanted to mull it over. Seller says no rush.

I get back the next morning saying that's fine and to send on payment details.

2 days pass. The seller gets back saying that whilst I may not be keen, a payment via Paypal gift is being proposed. This is a bit odd obviously and a red flag but considering the seller has been a member for 5 years I decide to try and push forward with the sale by requesting a G&S Paypal sale.

I get back within a few hours asking if we can do Paypal Goods and Services, saying that whilst most people decide to go Gift to circumvent the 4% Paypal charge I would gladly pay the 4% if it meant we could go through Goods and Services. I would ultimately have paid gift due to the sellers' long history on the forum (not exactly iron clad proof that I wouldn't be screwed, but I was smitten with the bike and was willing to roll the dice).

Seller gets back quickly saying that he was on nights and had to go to bed but would get back quickly. Feeling pretty confident in my reasonable request.

2 days pass which brings us to today. I get a one liner:

"Sorry Sean but it's gone to someone local that could collect. I hope you find one soon. Regards *****."

Surely this is pretty crap form? It's a pain to pack up and ship a bike vs selling it to someone local but that's par for the course when you specify courier as your primary form of delivery and then agree a sale via that method? We had agreed on a price that I would pay and were settling on payment method when the seller shirked the deal, that paired with the fact that it took the guts of a week to reach this point, leaves a pretty bad taste.

Absolutely frustrating. I feel like I'm stewing internally on this so if I need a reality check, please let me know.

  • Sounds frustrating (especially if you were smitten) but cash is king for many people on this forum and you hadn't sent any money through, despite a method being agreed. Wouldn't necessarily consider his actions worthy of a post in the bad traders thread to be honest.

  • Sounds like you dodged a bullet.

  • If buyers are free to undibs at their leisure then sellers are free to choose the offer that's most convenient for them. No foul until money has changed hands IMO.

  • Had it happen to me once or twice, sucks, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

  • Yeah, the seller can pick and choose who they sell to and not having post something is a big deal. What is bad form is asking for a bank transfer or a paypal gift, that’s against the forum rules isn’t it?

  • You can add zachman123 from this forum to the bad traders list.

Hello everybody, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would post something here. I bought a track frame from zachman123, after negociations we settled for 175 pounds for the frame, headset and brake leaver in the posted images. Postage was included. Althought it took me a while to pay(2-3 weeks as my grandpa's brother died and I needed the money for the expences and going to the funeral) the guy was very understanding and I paid the parts and postage over 3 months ago. After that, complete silence. He primised he would send the frame and parts the weak I made the last payment. If you read this zachman123, I want my money back or the parts I paid for in abvance.

  • Paypal. I've been selling and buying vintage photo gear from the UK for over 10 years. I've used Paypal exclusively. I have friends who sold and bought parts from this forum for years. I didn't expect something like this.

  • gift or goods though?

  • Please elaborate. I don't understand your question. Here's a printscreen where you can see the dates and ammounts.

  • when you make the payment you specify if it is for goods, or a gift.

if you paid via gift, there is very little you can do to get your money back.

there is protection with the goods payment.

it is also against the classified rules to request a gift payment rather than goods

  • The vast majority their comments appear appear to be them selling stuff which is always a bit of a warning sign to me.

  • Not jumping to @zachman123 defence but he has had his account for 7 years but only made 439 posts in that time, points to him not being a super regular user of the forum.

Also hasn't posted anything in 4 months, not sure if there's a way to tell if he has been logged in reading PMs in this time but doesn't look like he's giving you and only you the swerve.

His posts seem to be confined pretty exclusively to the classifieds section which I always think could be good or bad.

Bad, he's making no contribution to the 'community' and it appears he could only be interested in benefiting from the good deals community member's offer to each other.

Good, well he's been wheeling and dealing for 7 years and hasn't been flagged up for any dodgy deals yet, least nothing bad enough to get him banned.

There could be any number of reasons for someone to not be responding, maybe if he gets '@'ed a few more times it'll help draw his attention to the forum again but there might be circumstances preventing this.

I presume you've paid by paypal gift rather than goods and services as if you'd used the latter then surely you'd just have claimed your money back.
