I guess I spend a good amount of time researching the cheapest option for someone to purchase what I’m selling and also historically what it has been sold for, rather than just what the general RRP is....
I feel it also really helps for sellers to justify why they think their sale price is reasonable, much more helpful than immediately brandishing someone a ‘lowballer’.

The process I use is a combination of discount to current retail price and sold items on eBay. That sounds similar to what you do @Dick, doesn’t it?
Additionally, I’m not so sure I’m worried about different perceptions of value. Everyone is always going to have a different use of an item and willingness/ability to pay. No problems!
It’s when lowballing on this forum becomes a business model. Everyone knows prices here are a touch lower than elsewhere, there’s a community element that’s in play.
What got on my nerves was the suspicion that someone is using that community spirit to make a quick buck, at the expense of the community.
Specific red flags, each by themselves completely harmless, but together made me post the above:
- Immediate DM when items listed
- Move to text ASAP
- “Are you ready to sell quickly?”
- After firm no, repeated text check-ins: “Hey, hows everything?”
- Same user constantly selling high end kit, claiming ‘new whip’
- Ads for same stuff on other sites at the same time
My honest guess is they’re playing a marketplace arbitrage game. Can’t prove it, have no interest in doing so. But I can choose not to be a part of it.
The reason I didn’t name names was I’m not certain, and it came up. No big deal.

I guess it's context dependant too. Someone like Chooyhudson is making a business out of it, and deliberately trying to bully prices down-his messages are blunt as fuck.
I've bought stuff and when my eyes were bigger than my wallet and ended up selling more or less immediately for as much as I can to plug a gap. To an outside observer it might look planned but really it's just me being shit with money and wanting all the bikes.
I never try and sell for more on the forum if that's where I bought something or bully people on prices when I buy stuff as it's pretty bad karma.
When making an offer it really helps to say why your offer is reasonable...
