Thinking about a new commuter build.

    Would like

    Steel frame & forks
Relaxed geo & low trail forks for front rack
    Clearance for 650b 2.35/60mm tires
    Disc brakes
    Full mudguards
    Internal cable routing
    Flat bars
    Dynamo lights front and rear

Single speed is fine, geared is also fine. Don't care if its heavy.

Any idea about what frames I should be looking at? Happy to buy second hand.

  • Sounds pretty niche. Surly Ogre maybe? No internal routing but that sounds like a ball ache anyway. Not much out there with low trail and those clearances afaik. Rawland Ulv is about all I can think of off the top of my head. You might be able to do something clever with an MTB frame and aftermarket rigid fork.

Also, I don't think a slack head angle is generally great for front load.

  • Best bet might be something monstercrossy like a Genesis Vagabond, Salsa Fargo, etc.? and a new fork

  • Pompetamine or something with a custom fork thrown in (that doesn’t need to be Australian obvs).

It’s basically an old school mtb 🤔

  • This is pretty much what my Genesis Fortitude adventure is...apart from internal routing. Velo Orange Piolet or Polyvalent also relevant, again don't think they have internal routing.

  • Trek 920?

Weighty but if that's not an issue...

Edit. Not internal routing after all.

  • Soma Wolverine ticks a lot of boxes too-again, not internally routed...

  • Elephant NFE
