What's the go to brand of strap on (fnar) down tube bottle cage holder?
-
• #4204
So good. Have you lowered the bottle cages on this?

Go for hydration pack over water bottle.

On slightly more rotund seat stays. Had to add more tape to get the angle down and not blind everyone else in the group. Think a bit of cork would bodge best.

If anyone on here's got a 3d printer you could ask them to make you a permanent solution. Cork would do it as well though

Where did you get the zip from? It looks really cool. I wish I was allowed to play with the sewing machine!

I got everything from here; this is the waterproof zip. Relatively speaking zips are the most expensive part.
Also need to be alert when seeing them in.

They are really helpful if you phone as well, talked through what I was doing offered bits of advice. The one Velcro is great!!

nope, just standard side load lezyne cage and elite fly bottles.

Of course. Thanks. And thanks @edscoble
I'd figured out it would make sense to use the bottom water bottle cage with an adapter to move the cage lower. I'd already ordered the adapter (oops) but this makes much more sense.
Is there a recommended bladder? I have no idea what I'm doing but am planning to be doing some touring in the second half of July so need to get things sorted (and Restrap custom frame bags take three weeks).

Just get a new bike.
Don't encourage him...

bike on carpet 😱

• #4214
Yeah out on seat stay. Just make sure it’s on the right side for driver visibility.

If you were only thinking of getting a half framebag, definitely don't bother with custom plenty of good reasonably priced options in that space that'll fit any bike.
While bladders are good, it only makes sense with full framebags where you can get the water weight low down by the bottom bracket.

• #4217
couldn't you coat the inside of the frame with something waterproof and store your water in there?
-
• #4218
I use this one.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AHBKCK0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1The shape works well, think I've got a larger capacity one though.
One thing to think about is if you use SIS tablets or similar. I need to due to dehydration problems, so I do also carry another bottle in a bar holster.

I also didn't go custom with bag, the revelate full frame one was pretty much a spot on fit. Lucky I guess.

If it's going on the seat stay I'd stick one (or a fibre flare or cheapo one or something) on the opposite stay as well for maximum visibility. At some points your wheel or the bag is likely to block it.

I think full does make sense, I want to have the option of putting the maximum possible stuff in it (if I want to). Fitting it around a water bottle wasn't going to be ideal at all, so a bladder makes a lot more sense.
Also I want Restrap but all their frame bags are the same length which is not quite right for my frame.
And if I go custom I can have an olive green one which will match my bike :)

Frame is carbon so in theory should be waterproof already. But it's also reinforced with Innegra which is basically cloth in the frame so maybe not...

A less ridiculous suggestion from me would be if you prefer to drink from a bottle on the move you could pair a single bottle with one of the msr dromedary/dromlite bladders in the frame bag and refill the bottle when you stop as needed. I have a 10l one for camping and use it with their spigot cap which works well. you could possibly even lash it onto your saddlebag if need be.
https://www.msrgear.com/dromedary-bags
you can get a hydration tube kit to go with it as well.

Looks like a good set up. What size frame is it?
