I kind of like the look of the homebrew drilled out back on it.
But... he name checks Tym (the guy you know right?) so he knows at least one luthier.... why wouldn't you get someone to do something so major properly (even above their objections); seems like there's a lot of meat removed from that stop tail area and (I think) neck tenon - it can't have been 100% that it wouldn't suffer from string tension.
By 'suffer', I mean 'snap' :)

Saw this guy twice in the past year. In fact he's a real guitar hero of mine. Not sure I can abide by the wanton destruction of vintage instruments tho! Madness.
