Those speeds must be the plane.

Up front, Peter Andersen still seems to be holding off Dave Lewis. hippy still consistently in 11th, with Edward Tapp quite close behind. Stephen Haines and Ryan Flinn are more than 60 miles ahead of hippy. Simone Bailey has fallen back a bit but is still leading the women's race.

"Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Darren Franks!"

So Darren will leap-frog hippy when he rejoins maybe? Horrible news about John Egbers. There has been a few riders 'tagged' by vehicles, similar to last year. Hopefully he heals well.
Happy hippy update:

Oh no, has John Egbers died?
Edit: No, he hasn't. It's still bad enough. Update from his wife Susan yesterday, taken from the Facebook group:
Update on my husband John Egbers. No changes from yesterday. He is still sedated and intubated the surgeons worked 9 hours yesterday repairing almost all of his injuries
C6 fracture which is the most critical of them all broken clavicle, Broken scapula fractured ribs many Road abrasions facial lacerations a large cut on his left arm and left leg broken it has a external fixtator on for now when the swelling goes down he will need a surgical repair of a tibial plateau fracture and the tib/fib there is also a small fracture in his lower back I am not sure what is going to be done for that. So they are busy putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.https://www.facebook.com/groups/524758520982933/permalink/1681716235287150/

He arrives looking like a salt tablet. Go hippy.
Sorry to confuse @Oliver Schick, was just catching up on all the news. -

Why is that whole video inverted?
-
• #2187
i think most if not all his videos are. not sure why.

• #2188
He films with an iphone on a selfie stick and switches between normal and selfie mode. Hence the flippage.

Antipodean.
It's the right way up down there...

There’s also a video of hippy’s departure but it is 40 minutes long and is more about the other two riders. Highlight is the weighing of the fully laden bikes (hippy’s 17kg) and then the weighing of hippy.

I did think that perhaps it was a bit like how you can't see vampires in mirrors, but then I thought it probably wasn't.

Peter Anderson is on a normal bike right? As that's one hell of a ride he's putting in. Christ.

• #2194
Christ.
Christ on a bike?
normal bike
Who's to say what's normal and what isn't ... :)

Having flown over, Darren now shows up in 9th, so all other positions after him have to be adjusted up by 1. hippy's in 10th, having overtaken Ryan Flinn, although no doubt Ryan will leapfrog him again today.
Simone Bailey has fallen quite far back (in Houston, Missouri, where Malinda Gillispie has caught up with her), hope that she's OK and no bike problems. Tanja Hacker is now ahead of her again, in Ellington, Missouri, although I don't know what view the race jury takes of her earlier shenanigans. Needless to say, Lael Wilcox' record is not under threat this year, but Peter Andersen is still ahead of Evan Deutsch's mark.
Marcel Graber has under 200 downhill miles to go to Yorktown, so he should get there today.

hippy off route in Crabondale? Haven't checked if anyone else deviated from the route around this point though.
-
• #2199
Erm. Well he’s either on a velo mobile or a normal bike. So it’s quite easy.
