    Meatballs?

  • yeah, exactly, this guy's a bit full of shit. fair play, he rode pretty hard, but still sounds like a dick

  • A road was no longer to be used and he had a tanty and packed it in.

I respect the fact that people go out and try these records I respect them more if they fail with dignity or keep going.

From reading an article comparing the two guys going for this record there outlook on it was very, very different. To was all about 410 watt FTP's milk and sausages and the other guy just seemed to want to go out and ride it.

  • Was there any mention of sore wrist before the attempt? Don't see it being a factor if he was so keen to start, so why mention it?

My excuse for bailing was I was too fucking slow. What else is there?

  • Shit, I'm under 90kg for once.

I better go out and have another crack before @wheels_of_fire puts it out of my reach... :)

  • My excuse for bailing was I was too fucking slow. What else is there?

    Jeepers - you're a 49 minute rider. Game's up.

  • My whole year that year was spent doing longer and longer rides and I don't think I hit my targets in any of them. Combine that with silly dieting and trying to organise it and I was never going to succeed. Cancelled official attempt but coach and the missus had taken time off so we started it anyway, unofficially to see what it would be like without pressure of RRA stuff. Bailed up near Penrith, just too slow, heart wasn't in it.

I want to do it again, to finish the route, but as a bikepacking trip or audax or tour or something.

  • If you break the record then I will be comfortable in the knowledge I never need to try again :)

  • I guess Mike will be too busy to post on here today so here is his most recent Facebook post for all the dotwatchers without Facebook.

“This Friday I will be setting off from Land's End at 0800 to attempt to break the RRA 24 Hours, End to End and 1000 mile records. I am fortunate enough to be being accompanied by the most fabulous crew that anyone could wish for.

I would love to see anyone at the roadside who wants to come out and be a part of the event - there will be 4 vehicles in the convoy to wave at as well as me. Every smile and wave will make an enormous difference :) I have already been humbled by the interest, questions and support that I have received and I am very excited about what the next few days will bring. Please share this post with anyone and everyone that you think might be interested.

See the schedule below, and the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26405677

For details during the attempt please follow:https://twitter.com/endtoend2018

and dotwatchers can follow the tracker here:

See you on the other side, I am unlikely to check FB after tomorrow PM so do look at the twitter account.”

  • Fingers crossed for him! The rain doesn't look to good but I guess the wind is more important?

  • Looking on windy.com looks like if he times it right he can get a tail wind the whole way, if he gets it wrong he gets a crosswind from Bristol north

  • Best of luck @wheels_of_fire, go out there and smash it!

  • He's on his way!

  • He's ahead of me already. At this stage I was back at the B&B in Penzance, getting a quick shower before heading out for some Cornish ale.

    Keep going!

  • 1.2 hours in and hes in Truro!

  • Looks good.
I wonder how the weather is panning out now?
With the right weather, he can get it. With the wrong weather, no-one could!

  • Looks like a cross wind at the moment

  • why has he got a number?

  • If he’s like me, he goes faster when he has a number pinned on.

  • It's an old Mersey Roads number of his. Probably a lucky charm.

  • Didnt know we where in the same club once . Good luck to him but its not a tail wind at the moment.

  • Looks to be swinging round later on though.

  • Wind direction doesn’t seem to be holding him back. As far as I can tell he seems to be at least half an hour ahead of schedule and already at Exeter!
