out of interest, where did you leave the note? I often thing about leaving notes but am concerned that if it was obvious for the owner, it'd be obvious for a potential thief.

and for that reason i always pull my bikes tight against the locks before walking away to make sure i've not had a brain fart

Happened to me once on my first days in London, in Bethnal green road.
Walked back from the pub after a few hours to find my bike on the floor next to the rack.

Maybe he doesn't know the code to the lock and wants to make it look as if it is locked up.

The wheels are locked to each other at least..

Do see a lot of this kind of shenanigans here in Berlin lately.
Not sure whether this is art or somebody taking the piss..

Ha, I did this for months (with a cheap beater, mind) -
ironically it was stolen later right in front of my home, proper locked with a new d-lock.
