ok all sorted, two small rookie errors
a spacer in the cogs / block wasn't sitting properly causing a mill. extra on the rear block plus i hadn't " popped " the freehub body onto the hub properly so it wasn't sitting properly once again, once the quick release squeezed shut the two issues combined or individually were causing a bit of friction somewhere in there
running lovely now
