I had the blood vessels in my nose burnt out, and it's no longer a problem.
Whaaaat?!?
Pollen, pollution and humidity are all pretty high here but luckily I don't seem to get nosebleeds any more. I had one in the middle of my A-level English exam! -

For future me. This 24hr business is tough going!
5 laps in. Had about 2 hours sleep. Aiming for 7 laps each, 35 total for the team. We'll see...

I had a clear out yesterday and found a copy of Like The Wind #6. Does anyone want it otherwise it'll just get recycled?

Struggled last night with pollen meaning slow 'fastpack' to Lyme Park so I didn't bed down until 3am. Omm bag + liner was warm enough on a warm night, hard to judge as it was light and noisy (crows) soon after so I was down for 2.5hrs max.
Edit, also carried kitchen sink. Going to repack what I used and have that for future warm nights.

Decathlon own brand runners. Anyone used them?
-
• #18384
Yep, what specifically? I use their tops, shorts, underwear, hydration pack, trail shoes... Mainly because I can't afford the big names but generally decent quality too.

a friend of mine has had some of their tight shorts for so long that they have lost some elasticity and now look like tailored shorts. Pretty swish

Endure 24: We made it to 33 laps. If we had been about 30 seconds faster I'd have made it out for a seventh lap taking the team total to 34. Sadly the runner before me missed the cut off after putting in an epic 34min (5 mile) lap - having already run 30 miles. Bit gutted but all 5 of us ran an ultra over the 24hours so good performance all round. We had someone on the course at all times and had seamless changeovers (if you saw the trouble some people were having you'd have thought it was hard to stand in the same spot every time).
I think we came 12th out of 50 teams in the male small team category. Given the team was cobbled together at the last minute I'll take that!I had about 3hrs sleep, but did manage a shower after running the graveyard shift -
two laps finishing just after dawn. Oddly enough there were no queues at that time.Feeling pretty wrecked now, more physically tired than after Thames Trot.

I've been using Decathlon for most of my running clobber for years. Good stuff, good value. Not tried the shoes.
Pleasantly surprised to manage 13 miles mainly off-road and a bit hilly this morning in relative comfort. Had a big break after the marathon, and then did Land's End to John o'Groats on the bike over two weeks, finishing last weekend. Ran a total of 25 miles in May, and this morning was the first time in double figures since the marathon. Next week will be getting back to some sort of normal routine and then it's a few weeks of racing myself back to PB shape. (Hopefully!)

+whatever it is on decathlon’s kalenji kit - it’s (for my inexperienced needs) as good as any brand at a fraction of the price.
Don’t know about their shoes - almost got some of the trail shoes which seemed fine if a bit heavy (and it’s all relative) but picked up some brooks mazamas at 60% off, which brought them into the same price.

Shoes mainly. I don't want to spunk loads of cash on trail shoes when Ill use them once a week or so. Also. My Adidas shoes are shit for running in.
I use their shorts and stuff and found them alright. Couldn't find a good review (as in well written rather than a positive review).

I got a very basic gait analysis at Decathlon which put me down as neutral in shoes.
I was looking at doing couch to 5k, and they sold me some basic road(ish) shoes for £30. They did me fine.
Once I hit 5k, I started going a bit further and looking for gentle trail running to mix things up a bit. Went back to Decathlon, spent £55 on some trail shoes, they've been dandy up to 15k or so.
Haven't tried any other brands, but they've certainly not caused me any problems, and I'd happily buy another pair. -

I have a pair of the Kalenji Kiprun Trail shoes, done almost 700 offroad miles, through lots of mud last winter. They are a little heavy, but big lugs offer plenty of grip, they fit me fine and are comfortable. The fabric is wearing through where the shoe "folds" when you take a step but that seems normal for something that's gone through mud and grit for that many miles. Not so much cushioning as a typical road shoe so maybe not the best choice for hard packed gravel or baked mud, good on softer/wetter stuff, grass, etc but not uncomfortable on the odd road/harder section.
They also do a "race" version of the same shoe which is lighter but I found they pinched my little toe slightly so I stuck with the basic heavier ones for comfort over speed.
If they fit you ok then I reckon you should be fine.

had this done aged 17 as my nose exploded in every scrum in a series of rugby matches, queuing me being sent to the blood bin!
I still think its harmed my sense of smell, but at the time I probably ignored the warning labels as playing rugby was more important to me that smelling!!

Just in case anyone gets the sportsshoes.com catalog in the post and normally instabins it. they've included some pretty good discount codes on ss18 gear recently printed on the cover.
picked up my super-expensive sleeping bag for nearly £100 under online rrp after they already discounted it and I took the extra 10% off in may and they just sent out a 15% one.

First run in like 8 months this evening.
6k in 35mins. My calves hurt and my form is shite :/A far cry from being able to comfortably run 10 miles after work.

• #18398
Could you share the code pls?
-

Corr flip, intervals are bloody hard work when you've only averaged 10 miles a week since April. Got it done though.

While I was running yesterday the bottom of my foot started hurting, kind of felt like a tear in the arch. It stopped when I stopped running and doesn't hurt now but I suspect it would start again if I ran. What could it be and what should I do to stop it hurting again?
I used to get nosebleeds all the time - exacerbated by pollen, heat and exertion.
I had the blood vessels in my nose burnt out, and it's no longer a problem.
