Real talk. Derailleurs Are Dead.

Pinion, AFAIK frame builders only. Steps, there is no 'kit' but madison carry it all so easily sourced.

cross posting this here from mechanics and fixing.
I got a tapered headtube from Ceeway which needs the lower cup reaming out. It's 1.5" tapered integrated, it's got a 45 degree chamfer, and at the moment it's about 51mm internal dia. I want it reamed out to 52mm to fit your standard 52mm bearing. I have an Enduro one with 52mm outside dia.
I have talked to a few local shops, annoyingly two of them said they could do it after lengthy conversations on the phone only to turn me away when I actually got there.
Here's a pic of the headtube. I'm located in Brixton, local would be best if poss.
help!

The columbus head tube?
-

Doubt it. It was bought by someone who would have prioritised economy over quality. I've emailed Ceeway to ask for any specs they might have on it. Is there anything else I could tell you in the meantime that might give you a clue?

Been on the website to check. It's not that one. Mine is standard 1 1/8" on top and 1.5 lower. Takes ZS44 up top and IS52 (I think) lower, although the diameter right now is closer to 51mm.

Sounds like columbus one tbh. Did it come with sepreate rings to solder in? Columbus amusingly say that they don't need finishing if soldered in. Assume it's so they can sell more headsets further down the road!

Personally I don't like the idea of bearings dropping into frames, as they just make the head tube a consumable part, but I did a load of sub work with that head tube so have the lower reamer of it is columbus.

I don't know about the rings, they were bought before I started and I don't work there anymore.
Does it need to be a Columbus head tube to use that tool? The tool looks to be the right size to get my bearing to fit (52mm Enduro) but I'm still waiting to hear back from Ceeway on the exact size the head tube is meant to be reamed out to. -

Oh, ally. I'm not sure then. I have park tool #738. 52.1mmx45degree. IS52 std.
If that sounds like a goer let me know.

In case you've ever wondered what a bike of springs would be like...

Looks like a zs44-zs56 headtube to me (press-in cups both ends within which the bearings sit)

if you were joining box tube at 90 degrees would you join it end on to flat, or would you cut both pieces with a 45 degree angle and then join the two faces?

Do you have the material to spare?
Do you care how pretty it looks?
How over-engineered is it going to be/do you want it to be?
Do I like asking questions?
Should I stop typing now? -

Is water ingress likely to be an issue? That would be another factor, as butt-welding the box sections will leave the ends open unless you cap them, and if you cap them you might as well miter the tubes.

Thinking about trying to build a new brompton fork, how would i put rake into fork blades with minimal tooling?
(just have a metal fabrication workshop.. no bicycle specific tooling!)

is it wise to ask to braze disc tabs on a surly cross-check?
-
• #523
Yes. Totally. Just do a reinforcement if it is on the seat stays.

sell it and get a straggler.

If a chainstay has cracked near to the bottom bracket (lugged) how often is this a fix job rather than a replace job?
Pinion gearbox and Shimano Steps kit .. are these things only a framebuilder can buy?
