For a personal bike for casual road riding I don't know why that setup would be an issue. For racing, sure, get cadence-obsessed. But I think only a fraction of hhsrb's are actually raced.

It's rather disfunctional gearing wise. You don't need to be cadence obsessed, you just need one ride to figure out it sucks.
