As long as the tattooist is a good one, just tell them the idea, where you want it, then leave the rest to them. They honestly 100% know best and you’ll look way better for it.

or just do what you want and feel comfortable with on your own body, rather than the tattooist telling you what they think looks best, even if they are more experienced?

That too. It was more to people asking advice on here, who may not realise that the tattooist can be extremely helpful with placement and what works as a tattoo vs on paper, and so on.
