Yeah I think so. Unless you pay a lot of money to get the lighter versions of the bike. You can't buy away the extra complexity it brings and the forks don't adjust travel to match. So it's not like it switches in to an XC short travel mode. It's more like an advanced 'climb' mode.
Cannondale do something similar with their burlier trail bikes.
