I got a very basic gait analysis at Decathlon which put me down as neutral in shoes.
I was looking at doing couch to 5k, and they sold me some basic road(ish) shoes for £30. They did me fine.
Once I hit 5k, I started going a bit further and looking for gentle trail running to mix things up a bit. Went back to Decathlon, spent £55 on some trail shoes, they've been dandy up to 15k or so.
Haven't tried any other brands, but they've certainly not caused me any problems, and I'd happily buy another pair.
