Put another way if he takes to the start line will he be favourite?
To begin with, probably not I'd say, however we have seen from previous tours (and the giro!), that he is very good at riding himself into form over a couple of weeks.

No. You can't ride yourself into form on a three week Grand Tour

Given that there is only one other ex-Tour winner starting, I think Froome has to be considered the favourite.
He showed last year he can win two GTs back to back, and actually looked in better form in the second one until he got sick.

Bardet's comments were massively taken out of context and sensationalised, they formed part of what was a longer/far more qualified, conditional statement but obvs. that doesn't stir up clicks quite so well!

He'll also have the best team. I'd put money on Poels finishing higher on GC than Porte.

• #18307
ah really?! is there the full statement somewhere?

I read it here-dunno what Google Translate will do it-which takes segments from the original interview in Het Niewsblad:

Thanks!
ooo Dan Martin going for it!

The neutral support bike taking out the dude with the Panda 🐼 head on was my personal highlight of the stage.
Strong work by @taogeogheganhart again though.

Especially as he looked like he gave everything to springboard G and still finished ahead of Moscon, rapid recovery!
Wish I could find the results of the hackney grass track race I beat him at a million years ago! It’s my one claim to cycling fame! Still have the pump I won that day on my winter bike!!

I’ve only gone and found it!

He’s riding really well. He was impressive at the Tour of California, but this is a level above that and to be Sky’s last man on a summit finish deep into the final kilometre is great stuff.

Pics or it didn’t happen

Sparko, the OG's OG is on that list.

Is the number in brackets his age?
Theo Modell, then age 7 and now 15/16, regularly wins the Tuesday Tens with ridiculous TT times as well.

Think I did my track accreditation at Herne Hill same time as him; Saturday mornings doing two-up efforts taking a lap on the bunch FTW.
He's got to be the most "this is London my friend" rider ever? CCH, Herne Hill, LUFGUSS, Condor till, Rapah model, Team Sky. Even Brad doesn't have that palmares.

@taogeogheganhart was a track league regular back in the day. The other kids used to gang up on him to prevent him winning.

The original Peter Sagan.

VCL juniors in Jawbreakers letting you know they will be taking that wheel in front of you = the fear. Mate I have work on Monday it's yours.

Stunning stage tomorrow.

I did the Pré back in 1997 and on the descent down to the lake we got caught up in a cycling film shoot. Never did find out what the film was.

There's nothing quite like being bullied on the track by a skinny twelve year old who doesn't give a fuck if he misses school the next day...
i am of the opinion he has a fair chance.
Not to be underestimated is the number of piss buckets awaiting on the side of the road
