    Seperate to all this wouldnt you have all your set up sorted and any inherent problems addressed before you start ? Easy to say as a armchair ds of course with a wonky knee.

    Hippy does have a fitter who I am sure is following his progress!

    What happens is that a fit that is ok for 100km, 600km, even 1000km, might to start causing you problems after twice that distance. Basically your body changes when you ride 18+ hours a day for a few days. Some bits get looser, some stiffer, some damaged. Part of the race is how you deal with that and how you make the necessary adjustments to keep the show on the road.

  • I imagine if you're aware of any problems then you'd hopefully understand before the start what you can do to the fit to address them or reduce the risk of them happening.

    Even if the issue is recurring you might want to take the risk at the beginning of the race with the faster fit and hope it doesn't happen.
