It's a crazy type of voyeurism.
If my work colleagues knew I was currently tracing the confused steps of an Austrian women I've never met, lost in the borderland scrub of Montana through the darkness of night, they'd think me as mad as the folk trying to cycle across america as quickly as possible.

Busy day at the office then ;)

I've been sat in my cycling gear at home for about 6 hours now putting off my commute in as it's always been "just another 5 minutes and then I'll go".
WFH isn't a problem for me but I've got a face to face meeting at 4pm and have to come home again straight after that.

Looks like she's made her decision...
-
• #1757
Oh no, she's going back to Gibbonsville. She's going to make a good call soon....
-
• #1758
Means she won't pass Hippy going the wrong way either.
-
• #1759
Oh no, this is torture, just watching. Imagine being her right now.
-

Only 5 miles extra but double the climbing.
Going back this way she'll get back to a town sooner and with a lot less climbing though, which might have been her priority.
Given those circumstances it may have the best decision of the lot.
-
• #1761
If that was her priority then it would have been best to go to Wisdom. Stock up and rest, then double back to the point of going off route.

Any sense in going down Foothills Road? Can't imagine there is but maybe someone knows more about random dirt roads in Montana than I do
Hippy's gradient on the race flow is looking pretty shallow, the achilles must be rough still

• #1763
odds of hippy making a top 10 once the race flattens out a bit?

Just to make the site a bit more suitable for bigger screens.
Cheers for that. Added as a link (v2.0.2) so it's optional. This site really is a battle to work on. The star thing took 20 mins to code, then 4 hours to work around the feckin iframe.

Not that much shallower. You need to compare it to others along from it horizontally, at the same distance, not time. Slower than some but not by a vast amount. He is not a natural fast climber.

More unknown though innit. We can't tell from here but there might have been a reason why she didn't continue on that road last night.
She probably hasn't got data on her mobile so limited ability to investigate the other options. Trusting the GPS to reroute led her into the wilderness.

• #1767
From about 850mi on it's been shallower than others I'd say. We'll see, I guess we've only got a couple of points to go on for now after his rest

Fuck, just checked in on this for the first time since this morning... what agony!
13hours since her wrong turn and it looks like 17 hours (??) since her last refuel stop and she's still a long way from being back on track.

Mike Rushton no longer on the rider list. Huh?
-
• #1770
And suddenly she's going EAST again????
-
• #1771
Indeed. More twists and turns than a twisty-turny thing.

• #1772
Looks like he's scratched!
Still at the Sundowner by the looks of things. -
• #1773
Hope shes ok. Its all a bit mad.

Perhaps I should get a fake Facebook. Or just post and good snippets here. I don’t have time for fb.
Yes that would be great, unfortunately it looks like the back end only returns those 3 fixed groups of data so can't do an arbitrary comparo. Annoying.
