Really? I've found the opposite and it seems to make far more sense.
With passengers in they can take their time and earn more money but without passengers they're not earning so in a hurry to find some. With passenger they try to get from a to b quickly in order to get the next fare.
Without passenger, they take it easy trying not to burn fuel and keeping an eyes out for fare.

Unless they've been summoned by Hailo, as was presumably the case with the cunt who forced me out of the way going past Russell Sq station last night.

Damn near every driver in Padova was super considerate, even though if there are no cyclists they are nuts and all the cyclists are nuts, fucking about on phones, no handed, down the wrong side of the road in the dark with no lights nuts. The drivers just allow it, it's amazing. I was such a bad cyclist by the end of the week.

Riding up an awkward hill in Norwich a few days ago - not that long in terms of distance, but plenty of blind corners to complicate riding a changing radient in the middle of traffic. Guy is sat behind me for about the 500m or so before the lights at the top - I'm over to the left, and he could make a risky overtake (as lots choose to do) but doesn't. He passes me with plenty of space as the road straightens/flattens out, but is stopped at the red at the junction in front of me. I roll up next to him, tap the passenger window and gesticulate to wind the window down, cue:
Passenger: [rolls window down anticipating aggro] Wot you say mate?
Me: Oh, I just wanted to thank you for not overtaking me back there and giving me plenty of room - it means a lot to cyclists, and most bad drivers don't do it.Passenger and driver both break into laughter and assure me that it was no problem at all. I inform the guy that he's a good driver. Lights go green, we both move away. Happy days all round.

As I was cycling over Deptford Creek on Creek Road this morning a van delivery driver stayed behind me until the start of the bus lane on the other side. Big thumbs up.

Ha Ha 4 years dormant.
Should rename "Considerate Driver of the Year".
-
• #184
Heh - one of my NY resolutions, be more positive :) One considerate driver in four years, that's positive right? Right?

I ride around and have great interactions with so many drivers since the epiphany of starting this thread (it was a response to a whinge thread), I don't even bother to talk about them on the internet any more. Weird, I know.

I always let the drivers know that I'm grateful - big smile or wave, positive re-inforcement and all that. But it's mainly horse and carts and traction engines round here.

Here's the tweet direct from the family (the rest of the thread is pretty lovely too).
Doesn't it just melt your heart?

Unfortunately the body of the article states this is an 'extremely wide berth'.
I.e. not normal.
Thanks BBC.

It's a bit like when hippy overtakes you with his extremely wide girth. It's not normal.
Did he have a owl in the cab?
