  • You will now receive hail instead. Here's some a friend encountered in Wyoming last week:

  • Is hippy camping in the shadow of a Lone Knob?

  • I've been thinking about this - maybe one of those wire 'café locks' or a cable and small padlock to deter the laziest opportunists?

  • Bleedin' 'eck. That ride only has 3 hours not moving. Looks unsustainable but at least he will have this ride to look back on fondly.

  • Mathias Dalgas could be out the race? He rode back on himself for a while, looked a bit odd in the replay. Shame if so because he was doing well.

  • Many of the racers in these races do carry a small cafe lock or something. And often end up not using it much, as you usually only leave the bike briefly, you can see it through a window or take it in with you.

  • Ah that sucks, I expected him to be pretty fast, as he seemed to be strong in TCR last year, but broke his wheel. Finished 12th I think and seemed upset about not being faster, while that's not too slow either.

This is what he says in Facebook, or a translated version of that:

I'm out. Knee pain got worse, so had to turn around and ride back to kooskia.

I had tasted at tabr. Hope to be back at some point.

  • Damn, was hoping to be mistaken.
Pic of a couple of the race leaders Andersen, Rushton - the TransAm page has some nice photos so far:

  • hippy on the move again, guess it was a tactical nap and he's pushing on to Lochsa Lodge which is ~40 miles away.

  • He's tweeting Achilles problems. He's doing well though! Go hippy.

  • Knee then Achilles. At least it’s moving away from the gooch.

  • Cool pic. They seem to have been very close for a few hours, and eventually rolled into Wisdom with PA about 20 minutes ahead. My reading of the race flow is that they've both been stopped for around 6.5hours so I'd expect them to get moving soon and it'll be interesting to see how things unfold today. Interestingly MR's tracker hasn't sent a signal in over 6 hours whereas PA's tracker is still on... presumably MR turned his off for sleep but maybe he "forgot" to turn it on again in a stealth attack :-).

KP also in Wisdom but is 3 or 4 hours behind and will need sleep. DC stopped 4o miles before the leaders but is on the road again and only 30 miles out of Wisdom after a good 5 hour rest.

  • Don't know if mentioned here already but the dotwatcher.cc site is live.

  • PA on the move and MR's tracker also just popped to life, also still in Wisdom. Looks like the day is beginning!

  • Sucks.
Bit weird, not like he’s inexperienced.

  • He's tweeting Achilles problems. He's doing well though! Go hippy.

He shouldn't be getting achilles problems with his mid-foot set-up.

Disadvantage is that he has less scope to do what is normally the best plan to alleviate achilles issues: drop the saddle and slam the cleats back. He has dropped his saddle but not sure if he has any backwards adjustment in his cleats.

  • I wear a bell Javelin to tt in. It’s fucking horrible.

  • I’ve given up taking one. Left my bike outside supermarket in Italy last year, but that was really the only risky time. And it was fine.

  • Thanks for that. Loving how close it is at the front. Although I'm a bit miffed as to why Michael Rushton has gone to all the lengths to get aero (bike, position, TT lid) but is wearing a loose fitting jersey. The sleeves are flapping. Unless he's lost that much weight already!?

  • He was having problems just before the race and decided to start anyway, expecting to have to scratch.

  • Bit silly then to start. Would have been better to go rest and then try get a place in tcr or so.

  • Not everyone is so rational about things!
Hard to let go when you've planned your year around it, flown out there, etc.

  • Simone Bailey has made up a lot of ground on Tanja Hacker, who I suppose may be having a long rest before pushing on again.

  • No doubt. It’s easy to be objective when you’re sat on the couch.
