Less so now with 8 per team. Development riders can’t expect to be in the Giro or Vuelta teams either. It does highlight the need for proven quality for the tour teams though.
Hope Elissonde is in the tour team for Sky, may help against the hate and ugliness that Froome is almost certainly going to suffer.
Less likely to have piss or worse chucked on him if he has Elissonde by his side. -

Maybe not the best metric to use then.
Wonderful demonstration of flawed methodology there:
- Pick a metric that demonstrates your viewpoint
- Be shown a data point that opposes your viewpoint.
- Discard the metric as faulty.
You have a glittering career in medical testing ahead of you.
- Pick a metric that demonstrates your viewpoint

That's just science though isn't it?
Pick something, think it's right, have others say "have you thought about?", realise you're wrong, lose funding, lose job, panic, get job in something else. -

edit: previous message was a bit full on, but still, all I've done is admit my hypothesis might be wrong, if I wanted to be a bit of a stooge, I could say that I was utilising data from a given year with the same amount of riders in the field, and to accurately compare data when sample sizes are the same, I'd need to wait till the end of September this year.

Except people always drop out the Vuelta as their a sprinter or just wanted a little prep for the words.
There are more than 1 reason (too hard) to drop out.

I think you maybe misunderstood me.
Choose a metric carefully, then test against data. Data which disagrees with your hypothesis doesn't invalidate the metric, it invalidates the hypothesis
In the original post it looked like the former, not the latter.

I forgot Castroviejo earlier, would not be surprised to see him in the Sky line up at the Tour, replacing Knees or Van Baarle.

Interesting article from Training Peaks with Joe Dombrowski’s power data for the Giro.

Interesting his ctl is low going into races. I wonder if he struggles to train a lot.
The difference in training loads in the peloton is quite vast now. You’ve people on 20hours a week and some on 30.
And this is a guy who suffered through. -

I don’t mean to be unkind, but I forgot he rode the Giro.

For the 2018 Giro, the EF Education First-Drapac p/b Cannondale team was built around GC hopeful Michael Woods
Tickled me

Yes. It’s a shame he’s never come to anything.
It was heartbreaking to see him put on the front on that stage in a useless attempt to bridge woods over. Embarrassing. -

I don’t mean to be unkind, but I forgot he rode the Giro.
Not unkind at all. Apparently from wearing confusingly pink jerseys I'm struggling to remember anything that any of the Cannondale-whateverthey'recalledthisweek team achieved.

I like the concept, it's different and will reward teams who think about their strategy. Let's hope it's interesting to watch.

Came here to post this - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/44372328 - interviews with Tim Kerrison and Dave Brailsford on Froome's race winning ride at the Giro.
Most riders want to finish the Tour, just so they can say they have and will suffer like dogs to make it to Paris. Every year there are tales of the rider who crashed, broke bones and rode on to finish. I don’t think the same happens at the Giro or the Vuelta, unless the rider is a native.
I also think far more riders ride the Vuelta or the Giro as their first GT, and if I had time I’d pull up the stats to prove it.
