Just keep an eye on the oil levels and replace it often. The h6 often likes to use oil and all advance and lift solenoids etc all rely on the oil to work as well as the timing chain.

Thanks for the tip!

Forum track people- having got the 911 back I now want to learn to drive it, what’s the best track for me (Brands?) and which flavour of track day (I’m likely to be slow, and I don’t want to be crashed into)?
-
• #42730
Also, what’s a cheap lid that will allow me on track without having to rent one?

Brands is a great track, but isn't very forgiving. Silverstone and Bedford have bigger run-off areas. If you want lots of track time, go open pitlane but if you're worried about being buzzed by the fast guys go for a track day with different groups. Either way, get an instructor for the first few times.

If you've got a large head, I've got an almost-new Sparco ProJet open face helmet for selz at bargain price. It's silver, so it'll match the car, which is the most important thing.

brands or donington.
avoid the airfield tracks (goodwood, castle combe, etc). some of the carpark tracks have heaps of run off, but you should be ok at any of the circuits that the big boys race at.

I wear a Medium Giro or Specialised, does that help?
I can keep out of the way of faster cars (which will be most people, at first I am sure), I just don't want Barry the photocopier salesman trying to go up the inside under brakes whilst in the grip of his Fangio-fantasy, and destroying both our cars as reality bites.

you should not be able to pass in the braking zones on track days...

I wear a Medium Giro or Specialised, does that help?
Hmmm, probably too big for you then, unless you're right up at the top end of the medium size range.
-
• #42737
I am, yes. It's probably too large - but I'd be happy to pop over to your den of iniquity if you're happy to bring the helmet in?

Bedford isn't the most exciting but it has massive run off, it'll give you a good taste of a few different types of corners and it has big straights for some big speed too.
I have a Hedtec, which some people sneer at but it's got the appropriate Snell rating and it's <£200. Helmets are very head specific though so I thoroughly recommend going to a shop to try them on. Make a day of it, visit Demon Tweeks or Merlin at Castle Coombe, and try a bunch on, DT will do a discount buying in store vs online too.

After 5 years and 2x A2, 30k miles, mine let me down last night. Wouldn't start. Went to start all the normal lights but nothing.
They have a known earth fault, as in, corrosion between cable and body. 10 mins this morning cleaned and replaced and back to normal. But, dissapoints.

yeah, i have one of the povvo v2 jobbies and it does the trick. i'd like an open face though.
-
• #42741
I was going to get open face but a couple of tracks uhmmed and aahhhed about open face in open car and I love roof down track action so I went for closed face.

• #42742
Also with the Hedtec, a mirror finish visor is a great upgrade.

cheap lid
I'd have thought any open faced motorcycle one would be fine, right?
Then search for your nearest infinity bike shop.
EDIT: Nope. Apparently car helmets are fire retardant, whereas bike ones aren't.... Is that actually true?
unless there's a load of fancy comms equipment, I'm struggling to understand why a car helmet should cost more than a couple of hundred... Supply and demand maybe?
+1 on trying plenty though. And spend a bit of time wearing the one you settle on around the shop. From a bike perspective having nice quality, wicking, removable liners is worth having.

Although this one's all ready for painting Porsche silver with indicator orange accents....
The shell is supplied in a clear finish in preparation for painting to your design or for lacquering to emphasise the visible carbon weave.

I can't imagine it driving anywhere like that.
Ftfy, probably another pointless trailer queen.
That shit >>>>
-
• #42746
Yes, because you can get trapped in a car that's on fire but you can't get trapped on a motorcycle that's on fire, or you can but it's much much harder.

Why do bike helmets cost more than a couple of hundred quid?
You can buy basic OMP helmets for <£200, that have the ratings, but people want fancy names and fancy features, just like motorcyclists do.
-
• #42748
Lots of good options here:
-
• #42749
You're welcome to borrow my spare basic OMP one if you want before you buy. It's closed face with a visor.
If you want to buy, I would recommend going open face and the lightest you can afford.
If you want to try a few on (in SE London, there's a place called Msar http://www.msar.co.uk you can buy / try a few on
