Cheers. I'd rather avoid M-Part and the like because it does look a bit cheap and nasty. There was a Chris King one on sale here for £65 recently. I've not decided on the build, so can't make up my mind as to whether silver or black is better. Ritchey do a 1" headset that seems to only be available with one silver cup and one black one. Weird.
and don't get me started on 1" stems! They basically don't exist in any practical sense. Shim ahoy.

I'll have a campy record one for sale soon once my Dolan gets here. Yours, posted for just under the price of a Cane creek 40, £25 :)

Ooh nice but what if I end up building it with Shimano?!! What then?
Silver and threadless?
-
• #119655
Yes mate, silver and threadless.
Idk about the whole shimagnolo thing but yeah 😂

The Mpart elite isn't bad, doesn't look too shabby. You can also find the technoglide Tange one if you are lucky.
Shims, yeah that's the way I've gone with mine.

I want to attach a couple of bottle cages to my suspension forks - any recommendations on how to do that?

Hose clamps? Be sure to put some inner tube in between there though.

Good idea - works best on certain cages, but they’re cheap enough by the looks of it.

Got some r550 levers, I don’t like the silver paint on them. Anyone know if stripping and polishing them is likely to be successful?

• #119665
Appreciate the advice, and they’re not dear, should have gotten them in the first place

No probs!

Fair play dude!
The dolan is getting a cane creek s2 that i have lying around for all black parts so the silver Record will be surplus to requirements regardless :)

you don't even need clamps, just a bendy cheap cage and some tape - my instructions

While opinions will vary about exactly how you should set about doing this, nobody with an opinion worth respecting will think that attaching anything to the lowers is a good idea. Adding 2kg of unsprung mass is the exact opposite of what any sane person would want to do.

maybe in theory, but in practice it works great

Suspension fork companys spend a lot of money on R&D and making the forks as light and active as possible.
They do butt the lowers to save weight and they are not designed to have clamps and extra weight lashed to the legs.
If it's a lightweight race set of forks, don't do it. I still wouldn't do it to a more burly set.
Of course if the maker states in T&C's that it's Ok and will honour warranty claim if the lowers crack then go for it.
Rigid fork for the win or move cages from fork.yes it can be done, many do it, no you shouldn't, risks involve seeing your Dentist lots if it goes wrong. Fun police safety talk over :)

Just clamping the cages to the forks could do more damage than meets the eye, when the internals are all working with tight tolerances, and then you clamp something on the outers, it could create more friction-wear-safety issues.
I know the DH world cup mechanics are all super careful with all torque settings on the forks, even the "my hands are my torque wrench" ones.

I have DA7800 brakes in excellent condition and a short cage 7800 rear mech with a little scuff, pm me if still looking. 7800 calipers work great with 7800 levers.

Trash bike I found in the trash. I’m planning to get some better wheels and cranks and bars and single speed it. Need hose clamps for the forks too for an on trend front rack.

You may have an issue with the cane creek. The flanges are longer than the bevel in the headtube on a lot of those older dales, Ive had this issue a couple of time.
mpart work fine, but the very cheap one is made poorly, I had to use loctite bearing seat compound to settle it in the frame.
