Over ten years ago so no idea...was just an experience that has left me with an urge to be cautious around alarms.

I need to make a sheet ripping guide for a circular saw - I made one from MDF, but the edge of the MDF is not straight, even through it's uncut.
I'm thinking of bolting a 1" box section aluminium tube as a fence - is that going to be straight, or are even machine metal things a bit bendy?

I made mine with the factory edge of an mdf sheet. I didn't consider if it would be straight or not. Maybe I should have... but all my cuts using it have been good.
What are you using to check the edges straightness, you sure it's straight?

What are you using to check the edges straightness, you sure it's straight?
Even eyeballing it looks iffy. I also offered up the edge of a 1m metal level, and a frikken laser level.
It's not the most egregious of curves, but over 2.4 meters it's noticeable.

Maybe the mdf has been exposed to moisture and warped ever so slightly?
If you can't find anything good enough at home, I'd wonder over to the sheet cutting section in your local builders merchant and see what's there, take your laser level with you and take the straightest offcut you can find?
I have eyeballed the 2.4m sheets I've been getting from Selco and they've been good.
Aluminium box section could be good, but I'd want to look at it before purchasing as there will always be duds. Builders depot perhaps?

You've got me worried about my guide now.

Get some UHMW sheeting; really slippery, heavy plastic that is often used for guides.

Usually that's the type that has a capacitor or battery in the siren as well as the control box. Not saying it's impossible to connect it direct to the grid but it would be pretty reckless since an 80amp connection could melt the entire control board and a fair bit of anyone stood near it.

Any tips for getting rid of paint smell? (water based satin). Painted this wardrobe two weeks ago now and it still reeks too much to put my clothes in it. Have left the doors and drawers open to let it air obv.

Coat the inside with a liberal layer of paraffin, light a candle inside and close the doors.

Quick one, have a tall fridge freezer and the bottom of the fridge compartment is constantly filling up with water which then freezes.
Not sure if it's being frozen from the freezer compartment below? Or if the door rubber needs replacing? Anyone have any thoughts, or had similar happen? Having to break the ice and wipe down pretty much every week. -

Your fridge is set too high?
Is the drainage blocked? -
• #14039
Sounds like the drainage channel at the back of the fridge is blocked.
Also sounds like you have it set too cold if the fridge is creating ice

Checked the drainage before and it seemed clear. Will check again
Fridge is set at 4 degrees, freezer at -22.
Don’t think I’ve changed them since I’ve owned it.
What are optimum temperatures for fridge freezers? -
• #14041
Not zero.
Between 4 and 8? -

Have you got too much in there?
-
• #14043
Do you mean the freezer? We did but have been eating it.
Did a bit of googling which seemed to say with this design it was inevitable, but not sure.
It wasn’t doing this earlier in its life.. -

How old is it?
(Bets on 15 years)

• #14045
Overfilling the fridge I reckon, poor circulation, running it high, bit of food blocking the drain.

Lol, or the alternative doorbell for European visitors
Another battery in the siren? That's what happened with mine.
Battery inside the alarm unit was knackered so any time the power went off (power cut or when we had builders in to fix a leak in the bathroom) the indoor siren would go off (there's no external siren).
I replaced the battery in the main alarm box and that stopped it going off when the main power was cut.
Even with the instructions (found on the Internet) I couldn't ever get it back to normal again as I obviously wasn't doing the right thing to clear the tamper alarm (piezo-electric thing inside the alarm box) despite having put it in maintenance mode and back out again.
We never used it anyway so I left the internal siren disconnected and it's been left in maintenance mode for the last 3+ years.
Whenever we get the flat rewired we'll get it ripped out but for now it's relatively harmless.
