  • Just realised that these Sram Force calipers I bought last year have a very slightly different finish to one another (one has a darker titanium style finish, the other has a more silver finish) - has one spent more time in the sun and faded or are they different versions/eras of Force?

  • I'm not very familiar with derailleur geared bikes, so anyone know why my drivetrain sounds 'dirty' even though it's clean? My bike makes that slightly spitty slushy sound when I'm pedalling, kind of like when it's wet or you've over-lubed it, and even now I just gave it a good going over with a little bit of oil and a rag it sounds the same.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or am I just too used to the relative silence of fixehbeiks?

  • chain stretch? can cause it to sound roughish
worn teeth on front or rear cassette or even the jockeys?

  • Misaligned rear derailleur? If it's a bit off it will work but be slightly noisy.

  • Mine look like more like the right version. Worth remembering that the old SRAM Red brakes were this design before they went Aerolink and they were more silvery than gunmetaly, so one of these might be re-badged rather than specifically made for Force.

And this is why black is so popular. Batch to batch consistency isn't easy with other colours, and they do fade in sunlight. There might be date stamps on the back of the arms if you really want to know how much time passed between your two examples.

AFAIK, there have only been two generations of Force calipers, and the first was a significantly different shape from the current ones like yours.

Much more silvery, but it does seem that Gen1 Force brakes were tarted-up Rival and Gen2 were tarted-down Red

  • Cheers both, was thinking about selling them on and wanted to be sure what they actually were. Now they've been serviced though and they're working nicely again I might keep them around!

  • Nice one, thanks, appreciated.

  • I need a 10mm x 1mm thread pitch axle to fit a shimano hub.

Why is it only the sellers of the most expensive axles that specify the thread pitch?!

    Or this one, "10mmx170mm...Standard 3/8" Thread" well, 3/8" is like 9.5mm so I'm guessing that that's actually a 9.5mm axle, not 10mm?

Is 10mm x 1mm a 'standard' thread? Ie if not specified then it's probably that?

  • Is 10mm x 1mm a 'standard' thread? Ie if not specified then it's probably that?

It's a standard thread for axles, something sold as a 10mm axle will be 1mm pitch unless it specifically says it's 26TPI for Campag. If the seller mentions ⅜" he almost certainly means it, ⅜"×26TPI is also a standard cycle thread now mostly found on BMX and cheap horrible bikes but also on old British bikes. In common threaded bar, it's one of the ISO fine pitches, so unspecified studding will be 1.5mm or occasionally 1.25mm as the Japanese motor industry likes to use that over normal ISO coarse.

  • Awesome ta.

It was the combination of both 10mm and 3/8" in that listing I posted the link to that I found particularly confusing.

  • Do we have a drunken rant thread?

  • Nah, too specific

  • I thought that 'drunken rant' was the subtitle of every thread on here.

  • Morning
Can anyone help with my campagnolo hub identification?

  • Wing logo, circlip holding on lever, knurled nut on skewer = small flange Tipo.

  • Is there enough demand for such a thread?

Is anyone interested in a drunken rant thread? I could start one later after the next bottle of gin/vodka here.

  • I'll tell you, but only after I've had a few fruity cocktails.

  • I wonder what the liability would be here?

  • Cycling friendly hoodies?

Looking for a fairly normal looking hoodie I can wear day to day but also has some cycling features like rear pocket, lower back, breathable fabric etc.

    Any suggestions?

Had something by a company called U24 or something before but it died and alwaysriding don't seem to sell that brand any more if they even exist.

EDIT: Found Chrome Hybrid hoodie which fits bill but looks a little too technical over casual.

  • Any UK shop stocked this extension?
