  • Good to hear, spokes and rims still stand.

  • Brompton products can not be posted to countries where there is a brompton dealer...

  • Those who experience poor shifting on their two speed derailleur, if the spring and chain pusher is moving swiftly and with aplomb, then the issues may be with the jockey wheel and/or the chain pusher.

Here’s an example of a chain pusher where you can clearly see the worn out part due to the screw limiter not being set correctly thus need replacing, even with a new jockey wheels, it may not shift well and cause accelerated wear and tear, that chain pusher is about 6 months 0ld.

  • As for the derailleur, I think the picture speak a thousand words(the old one in the bottom’s lips are very soft like rubber).

  • The Oz Brompton dealer isn't replying to my email, which is terrific... 🙄

  • Is there any reason why 3-speed BSR standard range hub internals can't be fitted to a wide range shell (and vice-versa)? Mrs Clownfish wants to go all black edition style, but black hubs only seem to come in the BWR version and she doesn't fancy that (or the derailleur gubbins for 6 speed), whereas I'm happy to swap but stay silver.

I suppose a pot of black paint is the other option.

  • helpful! worth a phone call?

  • Did you manage to try one out and if so what were your impressions ?

  • So the current plan to make the Brompton lighter is to invest in titanium, seatpost/removable pedals and maybe a lighter front wheel, which if you don’t include postage will cost about the same as rear triangle, which I’ll look to invest in once finances allow..
I’m not looking to swap out every bolt for a titanium one, but is there anything else which will give me some more weight saving bang for my buck, which I should think about getting?

  • Wheels - if your budget stretches to carbon rims.
Go for the ones with wire spokes - not the trispok ones which I have on order - they're lighter.
Don't make the mistake, which I did, of fitting an Alfine BB / chainset.
It might look better, but is actually heavier than the Brompton standard one.
I'm tempted by the look of the Shimano Metrea chainset, but I've cooked this year's budget on the trispoks.
I would've thought you'd save a fair bit of weight by replacing the BB with a Ti one.
    Kerching!
FWIW, at the moment my Brompton is currently ~1kg heavier than my Van Nicholas Aeolus.
But it has eaten about the same amount of money as having my bathroom totally refitted

  • Half decent road chainset perhaps? Ultegra of some description? Probably give you some gainz.

  • Yeah, square taper to external BB cranks was the best £/g on my hillclimb bike. Loads better than carbon stuff.

Edit - though the carbon Campag chainset I've got won't fit Bromptons. 7800 probably the best shout.

  • I think changing the seatpost for a ti one is the best kg : £ ratio

  • Biggest weight difference for least buck would be to get rid of the folding pedal.
    Its a boat anchor.
Whether you fit spd or MKS removable ones, they'll weigh a fraction of the folder.

  • Seems doing all three is the best option then

    1. Change BB
    2. Change seatpost with a Ti one
    3. Change folding pedal
  • Does anyone have telescopic seat post they're willing to sell or trade for an extended one with cash/beers your way?

  • Do they come in black?

I'm gonna murder mine out completely... Will probably get my rack powdercoated locally and I'll pick up some some black cranks along the way...

@maynardeames Australia is fucking useless at most things, customer service being one of them...

  • PS Haven't been able to ride it for a few days as it popped two more spokes on Monday... I've been riding my custom built polo bike (I don't play anymore) instead, which is an A-MA-ZING bike that I love with all my heart, but...

    I miss my Brompton...

  • You see a lot of 7800 cranks on Bromptons, is there any reason that 7900 wouldn't work? Apart from the aesthetics of a single ring.

  • Amey, dis you?

  • Had those on mine for a bit before putting them on my surly.

  • my surly

    soon to be mine?
