Still, it's been a slow week, and this soundbite may take a couple of days to be thoroughly debunked by Barnier and the other adults representing the EU27.

Nope you are not being stupid as that is exactly what will happen.
The DUP is screwing us all because they believe the stories from the DExEU that there will be a solution for NI that is not super costly. But they have always been Tory shills.

So they now propose to have a joint EU/UK zone for Northern Ireland.
It's sorta funny and sad how trying to work around the NI border problem/the GFA leads to super complex solutions that may just not work after all and that the DUP may reject anyway, even though NI is now at 69% remain (it was about 54, but polls show people changed their minds)
