Still sad about Fitzrovia Cycles and Mosquito being bought out by Velorution. Two great shops gone and replaced by a shop selling electric bikes and expensive commuter lawyer dad kit.
Luckily one of the Fitzrovia guys is still in the Gt Portland St workshop

Velorution also took over the London Fields Cycles spot, when they went bust.

There are tons of awful people out there leaving 1 star reviews for the dumbest, most unreasonable things. Check out all the reviews for GP surgeries near you on NHS Choices, or even packets of cereal on Sainsbury's grocery delivery site.

Good riddance to be honest. Refused to give back a Chris King crown race after doing work on a friends bike, claiming it was 'worn out'. Generally pretty incompetent mechanics

so sad about cycle PS :( was it rent that pushed them out in the end?
I feel awkward often going to these places to get parts installed that I've bought second hand, but my LBS never made me feel bad about that, to their credit. and I think they charge fair prices.

I wasn’t mourning their departure. They were not a bike shop I used.

If Full City goes it'll be the crows fleeing the tower.

Thanks Internet, again!

I really miss tokyo fixed.. when I went to Japan last year they were asking me about it. Had to drop them the sad news.
On a more positive vibe brixton cycles survived and have a much better store now mainly thanks to public support of what I think is the last worker cooperative in the London cycling realm, esp mosquito bikes fell. -

1 star post, if that. :)

I once had a 1 star review for being a snob. As in telling someone I was sorry but we couldn't sell him a road bike for his £400 budget.

I might consider leaving an establishment a one star review if, say, they punched my baby.
Perhaps the platforms allowing these kind of reviews need to have a word with themselves.

Well, you could have done, but there wouldn't exactly have been a profit in it for you!

I am not sure, I mean it could be, but they were talking opening an account with Hope just last month and we were talking about building my custom bike once they frame is made, everyone is excited about it etc etc...
Now then, who is going to build my new bike for me?

Seabass in camberwell, or their new massive shop on peckham rye?
Rates raise was a massive reason for cycle ps i believe, and Harvey wanting to do something new.
-

I will never set foot in Seabass again after one of the brothers almost killed me without fixing my bike properly and didn't even bother to apologise.
TBH, Brixton Cycles is just as close to me and I have yet to check out Harbour Cycles on Coldharbour lane, they are actually the closest to me.
BUT they are not Harvey and Lewis, ain't they?

Bit of a walk maybe, but I'm sure P&L (was Rad Bikes) would do a good job of it.

They did, Only ever saw Popiel open once in the time it was there.

What happened to the bike shop that was on Borough High street near the junction with Newington Causeway?
-
• #71
I was speaking to them before about it and then I just decided that it's too far, but now they are back on the list...

Just wrote my first ever Google reviews after seeing this.

Maybe talk to Harvey and he might do some mechanic stuff from home while he is between work?
Was in cycle PS earlier today and Harvey said rents+rates bit of a double whammy. Didn't seem down about it just comfortably felt it was the right time. Like a champ was putting out more stock and said he planned to do everything as normal for sales and stuff right to the end.

Nah, this is what I thought I'd ask, but the whole reason for going to a bike shop rather than getting a friend who had been a mechanic for years is partly parts warranty, partly I could pop into a shop anytime in the first few weeks for fine adjustments etc etc. My initial plan was to pay my friend to build and get parts from the Interent, so as much as I love Harvey, without a shop, he is a bit like my friend, if you see what I mean? I can't keep knocking on Harvey's door everytime I want my gear adjusted or whatnot and I know with this build (it will be the most expensive bike I will own), I will want to be very very critical about everything, so I will probably be a nightmare customer on this count.
Still feeling sad about it... :-(

I assume everyone knows Ben and Tom used to work at Cycle PS right unitl they opened their shop, right? I wonder how many PS regulars would cycle that extra couple of miles to become P&L's regualar?
Indeed, Velo sport are excellent though their range isn’t as good now, especially on clothing since they started stocking so much x-bionic stuff.
And elswood are a nice little old school lbs good for getting small workshop bits done
