  • Just nearly killed myself slipping up on the bastard York stone path that I paid an excessive amount for some years ago.

It's absolutely lethal in the wet. Now that I've cracked my head open, I feel like doing something about this hazard.

Is there any treatment or other course of action that can make this stone less slippery?

Ideally other than break it up and replace with concrete smoothed off with the back of a shovel.

  • Once you have removed the algae/moss/green growth, you could get it sandblasted so you get more grip?

  • We sweep/scrub our path with a firm-bristled yard brush and coarse garden sand (as recommended by a neighbour). Works great for keeping the slimy algae coating away.

    Hope you're ok dude.

  • Jet wash using a patio cleaning head - the karcher version seems to abrade our flags quite convincingly, leaving a surface like sandpaper.
Possibly rinse with Jeyes or similar to delay algae re-growth, but consider how much might be carried into the house on shoes and tyres.
Repeat as often as necessary - the north side of our house gets done every year, the other sides seem to last much longer.
