  • I can see oliver rocking out to this. Head motion like a woodpecker, ponytail bouncing around, air guitar face on.

You forget the actual air guitar. I don't do things by halves.

  • Damned. Time to check Brick Lane and set up a search notification on eBay!

  • Good advice with the Brick Lane market on Sunday. Thanks Beagle!

  • Legally speaking Just taking something is not theft,

  • I don't think its possible to steal something which you already own

  • I think you can steal something you own. From memory, if there is a lien on it and you try to recover it you may ‘steal’ it. I’m sure some of the legal types here will know the exact details. I think in normal circumstances it happens when someone leaves a car in for repair and can’t pay. The garage retains the car awaiting payment. The owner could steal the vehicle from the garage owner.

  • :( sorry to hear, that area round ace hotel/shoreditch high st is bike thief magnet zone

  • Someone at work found an abandoned bike this morning, they’ve taken it into our buildings stairwell. I haven’t seen it yet but if you’ve had a single speed bike stolen in soho then send me a pm and i’ll put you in contact!

I’ll tell them to inform the police. Any other steps they can take to reunite it with its owner?

  • Maybe run the frame number through this? https://checkthatbike.co.uk

  • If anyone sees a Strnad carbon road bike for sale please let me know by DM asap! Stolen today, I believe it is the only one in the country - small builder from Connecticut. black carbon weave, Campagnolo Record 10 speed, stolen somewhere near Temple. I will upload photos when I find them.

  • I am not sure if it's the best thread for such posts please re-direct me if not.

Possibly stolen Salsa Vaya frame set. Seller has no clue about the size, model name or/and value. Also you can see few road wheels sets laying around in the photos. Seller has more bikes for sale - all are in different sizes. When asked if he was riding it and has a photo of the full build, he answered "Nope I don’t and I was passed down the frame by my uncle for a project when I didn’t have bike and never got round to doing it".

  • yeah here are some of his other sales, this guy is super suspect

  • Any ideas what is the most effective action we can take? Report it to police?

  • buy them and hope the owner turns up?

  • I couldn't acquire Vaya and then hold myself from building it up and riding...

So do you assume that reporting is a hopeless thing?

  • I don't think it's hopeless, but I don't have any evidence of them being stolen.
So what would I say to the cops?

  • "Here's some suspicious bikes, have any of them been reported stolen?"

Or we could check some of those stolen bike websites

  • good luck getting:
    1) the cops to somehow get his/her address off a facebook profile, get enough officers together, go to his/her place, hope the bikes are there, all before they're sold
    2) the seller to cough up the serial number on stolen goods, voluntarily

  • Yeah, there are difficulties. I would say if there's more than one matching model reported stolen then he's almost certainly nicked them.

re. police you'd have to arrange to buy a couple of them and then let the police know where the meeting is happening I suppose.

What are the websites for checking stolen bikes?

  • I did not find anything on the "stolen bike websites".

Almost got the serial number of this frame. I'm sayging almost because the seller has changed one number to a letter so it's not a full serial number yet. I am now waiting for a photo of the BB shell.

  • This scumbag stole a bike on Bartlett Court EC4 around 4pm. Maybe from someone on here???
But he didn't realise I was watching/following him since 20min. He first checked the bikes locked in the middle of the road in Holborn just after Holborn Circus, then the bikes locked outside Sainsbury's on Fetter Lane. Then those locked on Plough Place, then back to Holborn.
He grabbed a public bin (in the photo)in Holborn, where I stopped a police van to let them know something dodgy is happening. They saw him with the bin and answered, ok thanks for that then left.
I kept following him anyway, and he put the bin right next to the pole where the bike was attached to then climbed on it, he could pull the bike to the top of the pole which was about 2m something tall. I tried to take a photo of him which actually was a video.:-) The lock was still on it so he had to lift the front wheel and he walked away. I was with my bike (courier!!) so went back to holborn to check if I can find the police and they were there!! They were in the traffic but one of them jumped out of the van running after me showing them where he was and bingo we got him in bream's buildings!
Hopefully they will be able to find the owner of the bike.

  • Nice work.

  • Nice, can you post the video?

  • Maybe, if it’s going to be evidence you shouldn’t. Just saying.

  • I got my bike taken off me at knifepoint last night along the Lea Valley route by Springfield park. I was with two other cyclists and all of our bikes were taken, one of them being my custom built polo bike which I'm really hoping will turn up somewhere soon.

    Some details-
Custom built bike polo frame with columbus cromor tubing, fillet brazed, hooded track dropouts and painted black (with a slight sparkle!).
26" wheels (front disc mavic 317 black/black, rear has no brake and a white industries freewheel.
Avid BB7 x silver shimano DX lever with a silver disc rotor guard.
My seatpost doesn't match the rest of the bike. It's an old silver aluminium post with black fluting and a specialized saddle.

When it was taken last night it had a mallet strapped to top tube, 'polo is okay' sticker on top tube and a sticker of two faces on the head tube, also pink spokey dokes on the rear wheel.

This happened around 10pm when 4 masked guys stepped out of the one shaded part of that path next to the allotment. It looked like they fled Hackney way.

    I'm offering a reward.
