  • A brief forum search didn't throw anything up. Whats the hive mind best practice for new chains - keep the factory grease or degrease and lube? Also, follow up: hive mind approved lube that isn't more expensive than the chain

  • keep the factory grease

    This.

    approved lube

Any dry lube on sale. But as to the price vs a chain, it does last a long time - I've only ever bought one wet lube and one dry lube in the last 10yrs and that includes using the wet lube for brake/gear cables.

  • degrease and dip in molten parraffin wax

  • I keep factory lube on in most cases. Unless you're racing it I'd rather not spend money on relubing.

  • keep the factory grease or degrease and lube?

If you're racing, degrease and relube. If you're not, don't bother.

  • keep the factory grease or degrease

    Both :)

As everybody else has already said, it's not worth trying anything elaborate unless you're chasing a couple of Watts for racing. For everything else, just wipe the excess packing grease off the outer surfaces with a solvent soaked rag so that it doesn't go out into the world asking for every piece of dust and grit to stick to it.
