  • Awesome route. Some friends and I are planning a trip around the Welsh coast, starting at Swansea and ending at Bangor. How did you find the coastal road around Snowdonia national park? I'd love to see a picture of your rig!

  • The coast roads and bike paths between Porthmadog and Machynlleth was actually some of the nicest riding. It was hot while I was there, so the sea breeze was welcome. Crossing the causeway at Barmouth was good fun. North of Porthmadog theres a good dedicated cycle path parallel to the main road, but it has regular annoying gates.

Also good dedicated cycle paths between Swansea and Carmarthen, flat and rolling right by the sea much of the time.

Here's the bike loaded up with paint kit etc, probs about 55kg all in. I stopped weighing it a few tours ago because I'd actually rather forget about the weight while I'm riding- after a while you mentally adjust to the super slow pace and take the journey as it comes. Tactic on any incline is just to go as slow as possible without falling over :)

Edit: this is what I did on the last day. I changed the route a few times on the way down, at this stage I really wanted to avoid as much climbing as possible. Nicest parts of this day were the Promenade at Swansea with a tail wind :) and the Clyne Cycle Path through the woods just west of there
