Does anyone know what these are on my plum tree? They look weird, and cover quite a lot of branches. Not sure if they need attention or not...

As above, certainly looks like some sort of scale. One of my hydrangeas gets it. I refuse to use any sort of chemicals in the garden so just scrape them off with my fingernails. They really take their toll on the plant otherwise.
