  • Was thinking the Prime rims that CRC has. Normal road machined one on the front and since I don't use a rear brake, the disc rim for the rear.

    475g and 460g respectively.

Would go for Archetypes but I want black rims and I don't like that the Archetypes don't have a machined brake track option. I think it looks a bit untidy when brake pads remove the anodising/paint.

Anything else worth looking at in that spoke count?

  • Anything else worth looking at in that spoke count?

    Kinlin XR31T

  • Kinlin XR31T

Which is the answer to pretty every 'which rim' question.

  • On a different note, I'm building some new wheels for my ti road bike. The front has a Tune Mig 45 hub, so it's got a limit of 1000N spoke tension, and it's using an AForce AL33 rim with straight pull CX-Ray spokes. I built it to 100kg spoke tension (or thereabouts - I'm only using a TM1 for tension) but when I mounted the tubeless tyre (Schwalbe Pro One 23c) and took it up to 100psi the spoke tension dropped to a TM-1 indicated 75kg, which seems a bit low. So, do I:

    1. Leave it as it is and ride it
    2. Retension it with the tyre inflated to 100kg spoke tension
    3. Retension it with the tyre inflated to something else, and if so what?
  • @mdcc_tester @danstuff Cheers. Think I might prefer a lower profile rim so may go with XR22Ts as I understand they are made of the same material as the 31T just a bit shallower.

Just need to find them in the right spoke counts. Spa has the 31T in what I'd need but not the 22T.

  • Kinlin XR200 rims and Novatec SL hubs

I managed to put a dent in my rear, if I wanted to replace the rim on both wheels: what could I use and use the same spokes please?
    28 rear 24 front.
    DT Swiss 460?

  • Xr 220 (xr200 is not a rim) has an erd if 595mm and the xr22t erd is 596mm same as the r460.

Prime rims seem to be made by Alex and are there std production.

  • I have both rim in the drillings you need.

  • Leave as is. Never received tension after tyre fitting. Your static tension needs to account for the tyre you are using that's why the tubeless wheels I build with kinlin rims have nipple washers as I over tension the rear a bit so there is decent tension with a tubeless tyre and if a clincher is used the rim can hold the tension with washers without issue.

  • Xr 220 (xr200 is not a rim)

    Really?

  • Which disc hub can I easily convert from QR to a solid axle? And where best to get said axle?

  • Shimano M525 or M755, and Velosolo

  • Was going to say exactly the same, but within the (assumed) context of more modern disc brake wheel hubs, thought the answer would be considered 'trolling' :-D

  • thought the answer would be considered 'trolling'

Trolling would be giving the answer
"Any 15mm through axle hub, as long as you own a lathe"

  • Is there any known replacement for specialized sequoia "cruzero" rim ? I have a rear wheel with a cracked spoke eyelet to fix, and I've not managed to find spares online, nor similar looking rim (black, low profile, 25mm wide, box shaped rim).

I could maybe swap both rims to something similar ERD wise, to limit cost by reusing spokes, but i could not find that value online too..

  • The M525A doesn't have the nice big rubber outer seals like the M525. Think the 'A' is a cheapo OEM spec one.
If you don't mind 36h, last time I bought one an M525 they were £8 at SJS cycles (exc. postage)
    ...
    Offer is still on: https://goo.gl/UaD7sW

EDIT: so is this for a front hub rather than a converted fixed rear? That axle won't work as the cone nuts in the two shimano hubs are M10x1 threaded.

  • Ah ok cheers, I do need 32h so will just have to suck up the difference unfortunately.

Yep its for a front hub - so the velosolo as tester pointed out does them, but I thought 170mm axle was too long for a front hub?

  • the 10mm axle's also too thick to fit in a fork end, unless you have a lathe...

  • I know a person who does...ok thanks. I'll go for this combo.

  • Maybe wait for a definitive Tester response before pulling the trigger... You'll need to trim, turn down, and re-thread that axle for 9mm fork ends & nuts before fitting. Have fun!

  • Might just be easier to buy a Surly..hmmm.

  • its for a front hub

If you want your front disc hub secured in your fork with track nuts, pretty much any common QR cup & cone hub with M9x1 threading (i.e. not 525/755/756) can have it's hollow axle replaced with a length of M9x1 studding or that axle you found.

When I wanted a similar arrangement, I used a 9mm through bolt hub with M9x1 studding and track nuts in place of the fat skewer. Many 15mm and 12mm through bolt hubs can be converted to 9mm with either manufacturers' accessories or aftermarket conversion bushings.

  • Brilliant, thanks - that makes sense now.
