  • A question.

Been looking for stats on 10 times, sort of curious about Hippys goal for sub 20min.
Via this thread found times on TT forum. record of 10 in 16.35 mins was an eye opener and speed a smidge over 36mph......

I understand the need for aeros as with speed you increase friction/air density and the faster you go the more this ramps up requiring more energy to hold or gain speed/velocity.

Is there a threshold point of speed on a bicycle where beyond you need to go aero ?
Was thinking i can maybe hold 20mph with moderate ease so on a flat still course i could in theory do a 10mile in 30 mins.
with some aero mods i can achive the same (limited by gear ratio) but expend less energy, so could use the saved watts to power a larger gear.
Is there a magic speed of where you hit a wall ?

  • Why not make your first target 25 mph (24 minutes)?

If you can do that without aero aids you will be qualified to start thinking about modern gadgets!

  • Why not make your first target 25 mph?

Because that's the second major target :) Not everybody even gets to the first one.
