I run 40's suits me.
Its more personal preference/ how wide you are rather than frame size.

rode cinelli 64:40's forever on frames that suited a 30" inside leg, although gone wider, I think its linked to chest size and optimal lung expansion. You might be short but built wide, I always thought that had more to do with bar width than the bike size.

Got them on but looks like they're suited to a kids bike. That could be cause they are described as compact. The 50cm Cannondale I sold a few months ago probably had them on. I'll get used to them.

Bar width is related to shoulder width. Measure the distance between the bony ends of your collar bones (the acromio-clavicular joints to get technical) and that should be your bar width. A second check is to see if your arms are straight ahead when your hands are on the hoods.
Just ordered the above for my bike which is a small (52cm) Gazzetta but can't help thinking I could/should of gone wider with a 42cm. I chose the 40cm because the frame is small thinking a 42cm bar would suit a medium frame and a 44cm bar would suit a large frame. Does anyone have these size drop bars and how do they feel?
Thanks in advance.......................dennis
