  • Modifying old frames to take disc brakes. I know you usually need a strut to reinforce the seatstay. Is it possible to put the caliper on the chainstay instead, perhaps with a strut as well, so that it doesn't interfere with a rack?

    What is the reasoning behind putting it on the seatstay in most cases? Frame not designed with enough clearance perhaps? It looks like it would be difficult in a lot of cases e.g. this:
