  • And the Elemnt has the second row of LEDs along the side whereas the Bolt only has the row at the top.

  • Selling my elemnt if anyone wants. In classifieds.

Not for me. I’ll bash it once someone’s bought it ;)

  • That's nice. I ordered a Bolt on the 16th without knowing about that cashback offer. Cheers @amey.

  • Ha. Tossers.

  • You going to persevere with the 1000 for TCR or upgrading to the 1030?

  • bash it now :)

  • How long have you had it? You can just send it back say that.

  • A month.

I haven’t time to explain what I don’t like right now. But it’s to do with routing and maps mostly. It just isn’t right for me. It’s good for just looking training and Watts. But beyond that it doesnt need my need criteria as an endurance racer. But it meets some people’s as many long distance people use them happily.

@7ven 1000. Not really any perseverance. It’s good. Just mine broke which they replaced. Would go 1030 but I’m not spending 450 on a gps.

  • Can't believe those pieces of shit haven't come down yet. You can literally run your entire life from a £200 waterproof smartphone and Garmin think we're going to pay double for one feature of said phone? #out

  • Same here. Got the 820 and tested a Bolt for a few weeks. Love it, except for the maps. Garmin is way better maps-wise and that's the screen I'm staring at most of the time. Keeping my Bolt as a backup (during TCR) but the 820 will stay my main device.

  • Doesn't the Bolt use OSM maps? I thought OSM were pretty good - the only thing I found lacking was the postcode search.

  • The Wahoos seem to have some problems with the gps loosing signal occasionally, according to this and this and this conversation.

  • It's the lack of detail and accuracy on the maps I don't really like. Also the big chevrons are a bit confusing sometimes in areas with lots of streets.

  • Plus you can’t move he map around. And if you zoom out the roads all disappear. So you cannot workout where the road you’re going ends up.
I tried to link a few old roads together the other day, I haven’t ridden them in a while and also wanted to do a shorter version, I know most of them but couldn’t remember how to link up. When I tried with the wahoo it was useless, I ended up having to ride a road I hate as I came out in the wrong place. I do t ride with my phone a lot, as I’m cycling not instagramming. This is the event that made me decide its not for me.
Plus if you push the buttons on the side, the unit rotates unless you put conter force, which them becomes cackhanded.

Oh then sometimes when I turn it on it doesn’t detect my power meter. So I have to turn it off and back on. It says ‘warming up’ when you turn it on, I’ve know I’ve ages to warm up faster. Very slow to turn on, for such a simple device.

You can’t change icons on screen on the fly, have to have phone. Found the annoying a few times when just wanting to see X for some reason.

The batter life is good that’s for sure. Plus screen is clear.

Not sure how so many people can use it for long distance stuff, perhaps some of them got given it and say it’s good. And some just have different needs.

The garmins not perfect but offers the features I needed.

I asked Garmin to give me a 1030 but they said no. I’m not paying for one (madness price).

  • I’m cycling not instagramming

    thats where you went wrong.

joking aside, none of these things seem like big fixes for Wahoo, enabling users to pan the map and thats about it. Possible to do it without touch screen too.

  • Oh that’s another. I emailed their ‘support’. This forum knew more than he did. Useless. At least know your product.

Yes perhaps it could be really good but not yet. Seems a bit like Karoo, unfinished.

  • Oh, it's waaaaaay more finished than the Karoo. I'm using my Karoo as a paperweight at the moment, a job it's quite good at, although possibly rather over-specified.

  • Yes, they should have found a VC if they needed capital. Not sold a product that didn't exist in the manner they described.
My friend in the USA said much the same, returned his.

  • It's probably fine for TABR with a fixed route but the lack of being able to nav-on-the-fly was a total deal breaker for TCR, audax, training, etc.

  • I find the bolt very good for following a pre-set route but any variation to that route and trying to find it again, find the start of a route, etc involves pulling your phone out unlike the Garmin where you had a reasonable chance of using the map on the device to find where you were going.

I have OSMAND on my phone for those no reception areas where you need to re-route which isn't ideal but does the job.

  • Find my Bolt very slow to respond when I stop moving. Using a Garmin speed sensor. Any reason to think it would be better with a Wahoo one?

  • Never really understood why one would use a speed sensor with a gps device. Genuine question.

  • GPS is prone to drop-outs, sensors aint?
