  • Situation: Drive side of a square taper bottom bracket will not budge. I've tried a bit of GT85 round the threads and used a massive breaker bar + old seat post extension to get loads of leverage, still nada.

    Questions:
    a) Could pouring a more specific "penetrating oil" down the seat tube towards the BB threads help?
    b) Whats the best penetrating oil? Plus Gas seems to come reccomended
    c) Any other tips? Heat? How much? I dont want to muck up the paint if possible

    Thanks!

  • you can knock out the cartridge by hammering the axle

Depends which BB. I wouldn't start hammering until I was absolutely sure about how the assembly went together.

  • Hmmm, thanks. Something to bare in mind if i get desperate. I've been looking at the hammer longingly as the bb has refused to budge.
