My whole year that year was spent doing longer and longer rides and I don't think I hit my targets in any of them. Combine that with silly dieting and trying to organise it and I was never going to succeed. Cancelled official attempt but coach and the missus had taken time off so we started it anyway, unofficially to see what it would be like without pressure of RRA stuff. Bailed up near Penrith, just too slow, heart wasn't in it.
I want to do it again, to finish the route, but as a bikepacking trip or audax or tour or something.
Was there any mention of sore wrist before the attempt? Don't see it being a factor if he was so keen to start, so why mention it?
My excuse for bailing was I was too fucking slow. What else is there?
