He's still got to explain how come he left the pub in his car, drove into several things and then abandoned it after crashing somewhere down the road.

Locals will just cover for him, never left the pub in his car someone must have pinched his keys and done it.

Yes, highly likely and easily disprovable with a modicum of police effort but whether it will be perceived as "in the public interest" to apply that effort remains to be seen.

After all, no-one died. This time.
