  • 3x previously. Forged hubs.

  • no one can say if your hub will be fine or not. you cant see fatigue.

  • Anyone know if it’s possible to get the Kinlin XR31RTS (or TS) as a rim only? It’s the same rim as the superstar Arc31 disk wheels and the Hunt Aero Disk rims.

There is a Kinlin XR31 that Spa cycles sell, but I’m a bike tart and don’t like the machines brake track when it will be matched with a non-machines rear.

@thecycleclinic can probably get them, bikehubstore have them in stock but they won't be cheap once you've paid shipping and import fees.

  • Yep, there's a UK distributor that I'm pretty sure has stock.

  • Thanks @mdcc_tester, bikehibstore seems quite pricy indeed!

@snottyotter my Google-Fu is weak today. I had a look and couldn’t see a distributor, only a few retailers (Spa, DMC wheels) that had a few options. Any chance you have a name?

  • J D Whisker, although I'm not sure on stock as you get an old school list through the post and have to email or ring up and actually speak to someone to get stuff.

  • I stock them and build with them asymmetric only though 24, 28 and 32 drilling.

  • You can buy them from me

    front 20/24
    rear assymetric 24/28
    Disc assymetric 28h
    matte

    £50 a pop

  • You got symmetrical disc ones?

  • Are all the options available on your website, or best to drop you a pm/email?

Out of interest, is there any reason to use an any metric rim over a symmetrical one for a front hub, is the rim not centrally dished over the hub anyway?

Most front disc hubs are asymmetric, the exception being some but not all Boost 110 versions.

  • And dynamo hubs. Other wise disc brake wheels only benefit from asymmetric rims.

What I keep in stock is on the website. Most other things can be ordered

  • Only one xr22t in 28h polished black
    Quite rare.

  • Any hints on having a go at truing my new (second hand wheels) - they've each got one area that's 3mm+ out so perhaps only a cpl spokes per wheels need attention. Intend to use cable-tie as guide but main issue is bladed spokes - any hacks as to not turn these?

  • looking for 26" rim brake tubeless rims - do they exist? ta

  • Just do ghetto tubeless

  • seen many explosions that way, but will give it a go

  • Mavic 819 maybe? Dunno if they still make them.

  • Go with the 20" tube method for sure. Solid setup on my 317s

  • cool, thanks

  • Popped in Bespoke Cycling ( https://goo.gl/maps/T2jxerjcMAp ) yesterday to get a spoke changed on a Mavic wheel (special spoke, special nipple).

Was told that they are "fully booked" until June so no availability to do it.

That's at least 10 days wait to get a wheel sorted - I did ask the shop assistant if he was actually joking. He was not.

Here is you 1 star Google review

  • You gave a shop a 1 star review because they are busy. That's appalling. It's not there fault they are busy. well it is as it looks like they are doing a good job.

It's not the shops fault that your wheel failed and you then expect them to my be your job to the front of the queue because you are more important than other people perhaps.

Shops can't just hire more staff either as good staff are not easy to find and they increase the cost base. Unless that extra member of staff brings in more work then employing them solely to reduce turn around time then becomes a drag on the business and put the whole shop in jeopardy during the leaner months.

My campervan has a leak. The caravan place that it doing the job has a 6 week lead time booked in 13th June at the begining of may. I have to accept that. they are busy. to give them a poor review based on that would be poor of me.

  • If they are this busy that they can't do a 20 min job, they should have a contingency plan in place.

They could work with other "partner" shops that are less busy, perhaps outside Zone 1 - collect bikes / wheels and get them done elsewhere and bring them back in. Perhaps use a cycle courrier with a Bullitt to pick up all wheels and bring them to another location.

Or even pay overtime for their staff to do the jobs after hours?

Have you ever seen a dry-cleaner refusing to get your suit cleaned? No, they outsource and get it done. And probably make higher margins than they would if they did it in house.

The wheel is now with Condor, who are business minded and don't say no to work & money.

EDIT: Your campervan has a flat tyre while touring Scotland. Do you extend your holiday by 6 weeks to wait for the local shop to have a slot to fix it? My 3 days off turned into a 2 months holiday because I had a flat tyre

  • Wtf did you expect? It’s spring.

Have you any previous experience of bike shops?
