  • I do BSc Economics! Sheffield is local - 30 mins on the train :p

  • Yep dinglespeed and cantis are the way forward. 32:16 is painful on the roads but nowhere near enough for when shit gets technical.

Tyres are a measly 2 inches at the moment. I've got a 2.35 high roller that I'm going pair up with 2.2 ikon and @Batt has recommended dth's for more general stuff.

  • Cheers I've yet to ride them but they do look the business. Engraving on the crown makes me happy :)

  • I've been offered a place on mechanical engineering at Sheffield :) Nottingham is my top choice. I've also got a mate at Birmingham who really rates it there.

  • Picked up a new pair of cranks at the weekend. They were relatively local so I used it as an excuse to get a good ride in on the Ribble. I saved a fiver on postage and spent it on chips and coffee and the way back. Win!

They're a bit beat up and the pedals that were 'included' in the sale were actually seized.

Here they are cleaned up and with an on one stainless chainring ready to be fitted.

  • Dig day at Lady Cannings (Sheffield!) today. Lots of trail repairs, not a lot of trail riding. Still good fun and free BBQ to boot. Will have to make another trip out there to actually ride the damn thing. Highlight of the day was definitely the dash back down into Sheffield to catch our train home. 40 minutes to ride out to Ringinglow, 20 back. No decent photos as I was too busy digging so here's one of Jack making at nuisance of himself at the station

  • New (3rd) pair of forks for the Surly. They're currently 100mm travel and my 1x1 is designed around 80mm - how difficult is it to lower them? I know absolutely nothing about suspension forks (:

  • After a two week absence during which my lbs were, erm, greasing the chainring bolts I've finally fitted the fox forks. Now wondering why I ever bothered with rigid forks. Maybe I'll add gears next. A front brake wouldn't go amiss either. Then I'll buy a real mountain bike and reminisce about how my natural talent was suppressed by measly 100mm travel forks.
    Just kidding.
