Are there specific offset / angled spanners that do this job?

Yes. The dust cap and lock nut tool is #710, I don't know the number for the pedal cone tool.

Thanks tester, I have the dust cap/locknut one which was great, bodged the cone with an ordinary cone spanner, that pedal one is one I’d like to find though. The hunt is on.
