Thanks Amey - I was thinking of a more elegant solution like rubberising the cable guides. Or getting some earplugs.

Of useful suggestions, I was considering a bit of sugru at the lower entry point by the head tube to hold the hose in place, as pinning that down seems to reduce rattle considerably. But haven't got around to investing any effort in that solution yet.

Thanks 6pt - I got a length of very thin foam tube (thanks Evans Crouch End mechanic!) which I've fed over the brake cable outer from the bottom up and into the downtube using teflon spray - going to see if it works properly tomorrow.
If it doesn't it's Sugru time.

Ooh that sounds exciting. Please update with progress!

and yes it works! 95% of the rattles have gone and what's left is damped and muffled - tested on the Heath paths and some cobbles... Silence is golden (If not as quiet as my Gt Grade 1 x 11 which is quiet as a ninja mouse).
The guy at Evans was building up a Specialized and he wasn't using the foam pipe that came in the build kit - think I'll buy him some biscuits!

if you can source another one, I'll come up and see you. Since you mentioned it, my rattle has gone into overdrive. v annoying today.

I'll ask them - was a straightforward fit with cable brakes - would be much fiddlier with Hydros - involving a break and a bleed I imagine.

urgh, sod that then. next time I'm in serious fettle mode I'll give it a ponder though.

New saddle and pedals since it was first finished, as I snapped both of them (#fatlyfe). Got the front end lower with a -17° as I was tired of having the wind in my face. Pretty happy with it now, just in time to give up on it for summer and get something shiny out.

^ Is that out of Wareham?

That way, yeah. Did a 'favourite roads' ride yesterday and took it all in, including the laughable switchback between East Creech and Church Knowle that always makes me smile.

Jagwire showed me something similar At Taipei show. Basically scaled-down grey pipe lagging. The version they had featured full length slit meaning easy post setup installation. They said they're offering oem at the moment but it'll be available aftermarket soon. I'll try and get more deets.

Initial testing on the mudguard enabled Pilgrims is positive.
Skinny PDWs are rattle free in the main. A little bit of clatter during the 30kph pave test but broadly solid.
Bostick glue dots are quite handy for cable tie free mounting.

I think I'm going to have to sell my Pilgrims - full build. Drop me a pm if you're interested before I post on the main bit of the forum.

Palace owners - what is the largest tyre you can squeeze in?
-
• #42
I think they've always said 28mm. I've had Vittoria Corsa G+ 25mm that were like balloons on wide carbon rims that must have been nudging 27mm?

So the chain stays cracked on my Footscray (both sides in the same place where it's dimpled for larger tyre clearance) . Was gutted as it's my TCRNO6 bike and I've never had so many compliments on a bike I've owned). Got in touch with the fine gents at Bowman who replaced it free of charge!
Result when they had no obligation to as the bike was second hand to me. Give them your custom. Great to see people doing the right thing and standing behind their stuff.

Haha - I was wondering if fitting mudguards would some create some magical cancelling rattle that would neutralise the cable rattle - like a mechanical noise cancelling system.
