Adrienne could hear Laurel and me Yanny. But when I put the mic of my phone's speaker into my mouth (as you do) I could hear Laurel.

Adrienne could hear Laurel
Adrienne could also hear Rocky
-
• #77682
Yes we also both heard different. Maybe we need to wifeswap
-
• #77683
I can't imagine how anyone could hear anything but Laurel... I want to hear yanny... how do I hear yanny?
-

Boringly it's to do with the frequencies used and the individual response to different frequencies.
If you have speakers that give a bit more bass (or treble) then you might hear different things. A mixing deck will allow you to experiment easily.

What's a party?

It's a thing where lots of people get together to have fun and you stand in the corner desperately trying to think of something to say while feeling like you shouldn't be there.

Try the links in the article to the pitch adjusted versions.

Pitch shift down 30% and it changed to Yanny for me.
-
• #77693
I wonder if anyone called Laurel has ever had Yanny written on their starbucks cup
-
• #77694
Article says lower frequencies should sound more like “Laurel”, higher ones more like “Yanny” but the down 30% sounds kinda like “Yelly” to me, everything else is “Laurel”.

Gammon
(Noun/mass noun): A term used to describe a particular type of Brexit-voting, middle-aged white male, whose meat-faced complexion suggests they are perilously close to a stroke. The term 'gammon' is linked to the unhealthy pink skin tone of such stout yeomen, probably because of high blood pressure caused by decades of 'PC gone mad', being defeated in arguments about the non-existent merits of Brexit and women getting the vote.
Ahahahaha! This just made my day!
-
• #77696
Aaah, yes... same for me, although it's more like "Yelly" with a glottal stop at where the "ll" should be.
-
• #77697
glottal stop. everyday is a school day, etc...
-
• #77698
It's not Yanny or Laurel, it's Derry; they've just cut off the rest of the conversation.
