  • Where you going to be riding that bike?

  • To be clear, I won't be riding with the camera like that. Camera in top-tube bag and pop it out when I want to get a photo was the idea. Saves bringing a tripod. Check previous pages for ough's original post. Will be going on a mini-tour this weekend so I'll try it out then.

Edit: although 1080p telephoto action cam would be hilarious/vomit-inducing

  • Process pics plz!

  • oh, look at that! cool, thanks for sharing

  • We did this in the lab at Uni with proper ventilation. It involves NaOH for de anodizing, HN3 for getting rid of the alloying materials left on the surface from deanodizing (pic 2) and then H2SO4 for the anodizing bath.
We tried a couple of different colouring methods. And the seat post was done proper anodizing colouring, which definitely shows!
Timing is quite important so that you don't remove too much material because the NaOH will just eat away at your aluminium until it's gone.
And get a proper current supply. It takes quite a bit of amperage and this one just shut off if you get a short instead of electrocuting you, which is nice.
    I also found this video
quite informative in regards to the process, not the science.
Last picture (in the pot) is sealing the anodized and coloured parts in 97 degree C demineralized water.

  • This should be a handy guide for home anodizing (the one he mentions in the video). I haven't read it so proceed at own risk.

  • Not as impressive as most of the examples on this thread but I was pleased how well the classic beer can shim works

  • Added a presta valve for easier inflation. If this wasn't going to kill me before, it definitely will now.

  • can shim can win the tour.

  • Greg LeMond must have bought cheap Chinese made components from Amazon as well then!

  • It was cheap French components back then.

  • Attaching a valve to a drinks bottle and inflating it beyond failure point won't kill you, it'll just make your ears very sore. The people in the shop on either side of the workshop might also pop in to check that you're ok.

    Or err...so I've heard.

I'm definitely pushing my luck with this one, need to buy an air shot or w/e

  • I just bought the cheap tubeless canister track pump on Wiggle. Doesn't feel lovely to use like a nice tool does, because it's all plasticky, but it does the job well. I had a bodged version like yours but it scared me.

  • Still more expensive than an airshot (or Schwalbe booster) tho

But good price point for a whole pump, for sure

  • can shim can win

Someone should make a sticker of this..

  • Tbf trimmed 1cm

  • For reference - 2 litre PET bottles explode at about 110psi when the valve is in the cap. As the others said, it’s LOUD when it goes!
